Born Christa Paffgen in Cologne on October 16th 1938, Nico was a 60's model, adopted as protege by Andy Warhol, and was an occasional singer in the Velvet Underground. After being ousted from that band, she had a occasional career as a singer, recording a number critically acclaimed but poor selling albums, including June 1, 1974 with John Cale and Kevin Ayers and The End. A lifetime abuser of heroin, Nico died on July 18, 1988, of a brain haemorrhage following a fall from a bicycle.
