From 14 August to 18 October 2004, Mark Dingemanse logged 500 edits as Strangeloop. Since then, he has made over 1700 edits under his real name. He is the primary author of two featured articles: Nafaanra language and Laal language. Mark is a conscientious and good-humored Wikipedian deserving of adminship. - BanyanTree 16:40, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Thank you, BanyanTree, for nominating me. I accept and refer to below for my reasons. mark 17:35, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)
[Note: I am indeed the primary author of Nafaanra language, but not of Laal language; that honour is due to User:Mustafaa.]

Questions for the candidate
A few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:

1. What sysop chores, if any, would you anticipate helping with? (Please read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.)
A. I would appreciate the mop and bucket, as they say, in repairing vandalism (as I find myself frequently doing nowadays) and the occasional page move. On a sidenote, I tend to be patient with vandals and unskilled users; I frequently drop a note on their talk page to explain what I did and to welcome them to Wikipedia. Since I've given up the fight against Wikipediholism, I only would expect more of all this if I'm an admin. I would like to be of help to the community.
2. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
A. I'm particularly proud of Nafaanra language, which made it into a featured article recently. I'm also proud of my maps and diagrams (my very pleasant collaboration with BanyanTree on the now featured Lord's Resistance Army, for which I created the maps, deserves mentioning). Last but not least, I'm pleased with the Linguistics section of Wikiproject Countering Systemic Bias, which resulted in a lot of improvements by various editors to many of this articles.
I refer to my userpage for more info on me, and to here for my to do list and a list of past projects.
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and will deal with it in the future?
A. Together with some other editors (including User:Dbachmann, User:Mustafaa, User:Nyenyec and User:Dbenbenn) I have been involved in a article content dispute with User:Antifinnugor which culminated in a heavily certified RfC and eventually in a (now closed) RfAr. That was my first and until now my only involvement in a conflict. I believe I have dealt patient and civil in this case (I refer to the evidence of the aforementioned RfC).
I have learned some lessons from this conflict. In particular, it has strengthened me in my practice to not bite the newcomers and to always handle with patience, care and conscience. What I didn't like about it was that it did cost a lot of time. However, the fact that this conflict ultimately led to improvements in the affected articles convinced me that the Wikipedia way works.
