John Cawte Beaglehole (13 June 1901- 10 October 1971) was born in Wellington, New Zealand. He was a historian based mainly at the Victoria University of Wellington who wrote the definitive biography of James Cook, the 18th Century English explorer-seaman, and edited his journals.
