Special forces

Special forces is a generic term for small elite military units designed for special operations. These units rely on stealth and speed. The generally do not have the numbers to outfight regular military units. The work of special forces is often classified. In most cases, there are ties between intelligence agencies and special forces units.

Special forces were an important part of the Kosovo War and the War in Afghanstan. In these wars they served to coordinate military actions such as air strikes with local ground units.
