Chinese Basketball Association
The Chinese Basketball Association is the premier professional basketball league in the People's Republic of China. It is commonly known as the CBA, and this appears to be its official name in Chinese (that is, news stories written in Chinese spell out the letters "CBA" rather than using any name in Chinese characters).
The league has been in existence since 1995. It should not be confused with another CBA, the Continental Basketball Association, a basketball minor league in the US).
Many of the best players in Asia play in the CBA. Some CBA players, such as Yao Ming and Wang Zhizhi, have reached the NBA.
Teams
Team names often incorporate the name of a corporate sponsor; this sponsor may change from year to year. Team names or home cities may also change from year to year.
Thus, there is often a great deal of confusion about exact team names in English, with many variants seen in English-language news stories.
