Northeast blackout of 2003

On August 14, 2003, at 4:20 P.M. EDT, electric power went out in New York City and parts of Long Island, New York City, Westchester, New Jersey and Connecticut. There are also reports of
- outages in places in New Jersey such as Newark
- and other cities as well: Detroit, Cleveland, parts of Akron, Ohio
- in Canada, the cities of Ottawa, Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph, Hespler.
CNN reported officials as saying that the Niagara-Mohawk power grid, which provides power for New York and parts of Canada, was overloaded. The outage is not believed to be a terrorist attack.
