Multiethnic concepts in contrast to nationalistic concepts are designed to integrate different ethnic groups irrespective of differences in their culture and history under a common identity.

History of multiethnic concepts

Multiethnic concepts have been applied in various historical contexts such as ancient China the roman empire, or the austrian hungarian empire

In recent times formation of the United States of America, Yugoslavia, and Tchechoslowakia are examples of multiethnic societies.

Last but not least, establishment of the European Union is such a multiethnic experiment which is still in progress and outcome of which is still uncertain.
