Parapleisticantha is a valid genus of crabs in the family Inachidae, It has been found in Japan, Philipines and to Indian Ocean, but the depth of this genus is not recorded. They are small to medium in size, their carapace is somewhat reddish-orange to orange and their walking pair of legs are brightly reddish-white. Their walking legs are slender, long. With the front pair being the longest, legs decreasing length posteriosly. The rostrum is stout, the horns are 1/4 - 1/5 times the carapace length, being diverging and widely forming into a V like shape, with has a round or a pentagonal carapace.[1][2] The term "parapleisticantha" is a combination of Greek and Latin roots. "Para-" is a Greek prefix meaning "beside" or "near." "Pleisticantha" is derived from the genus name "Pleistacantha", which itself comes from the Greek "pleistos" (most, greatest) and "akantha" (thorn, spine), meaning related to Pleistacantha.
