Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia! If you're new to our community, drop us a note here and tell us a little bit about yourself. Most importantly, we would like to know about your interests (for which we have a separate page), your areas of knowledge, and the sorts of things you'd like to work on here at Wikipedia. That makes it easier for us to help you start editing. We'd also appreciate it if you told us how you found out about Wikipedia.

To add yourself to the list, post a comment and enter your name as the subject in a header. Please also sign your name after your comment by typing four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (this lets readers jump straight to your talk page and welcome you personally if they like). Your comments will then be added to the bottom of the list.

You may also like to add yourself to another list, such as the listing in order of arrival, by country, or by skills (such as translation or photography). Finally, if you want a little personal assistance in using or contributing to the site, you might go through one of the Bootcamps.

Hi there. I don't know how long ago I discovered Wikipedia, but I've been making anonymous edits here and there with varying IP addresses. One of my chief interests is computers, especially Macs, but I look up (and sometimes add to) whatever I stumble across. I have a (really) little Mac site at http://www.freewebtown.com/mhn which I wrote from scratch in HTML, if anyone wants to look. --Micler 21:19, Apr 29, 2005 (UTC)

I'm just an all-too-typical physics/CS geek. I probably found out about Wikipedia from Slashdot (although I was already present at the Portland Pattern Repository), and went straight for the article merging with Vulcan nerve pinch (2004). Eventually I decided I might be continually useful to the Wiki and I registered. I'm not as much of a Dr. Who fan as one would think; the name is just my longtime-standard username.

Hi all, I'm new to Wiki's and wanted to learn more. I have a background in communications and manage a computer help desk. My interests are fairly diverse so I tend to be all over the place. For some odd reason, I find copy-editing rather relaxing and try and get through a couple of articles a night. I'm up for bigger projects if anyone needs help but am more than happy to just run around picking up crumbs here and there. I live in the US in the Seattle Washington area where it is currently raining yet again.--Stockwell 07:15, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Just an average Canadian. I've got a lot of wierd areas of interest, I'll try to do my best with what I can. No formal researching education, but I consider myself an amateur creative writer, so it shouldn't become too tough to work on something.

Just found Wikipedia through Google of course, or maybe it was a random forum link, I'm not sure. Topics that interest me are videogames and internetia. Things that currently interest me are humans (civilization, evolution and culture) and Canada's Great Lakes region which is where I grew up.

New to Wikipedia

I just found the website while looking for information. I decided to join right away since it seems like a place to connect with people who might know about things I'm interested in. It seems very easy to use and open for creativity, but I really can't imagine how I'll fit in. My main interests are education and therapy (which I define mainly as "self-care"), art (my favorite form of therapy) and how the internet is really changing the world. I'm also interested in gardening in the desert (most of the books are not written in my area). I need to get back to the tutorial now.Trmcnamara 20:08, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)Trmcnamara

Rainbow Pacifist

A very good afternoon. I write this having already posted to the village pump. Sorry for the breach of protocol - I am getting a hang of things finally. :) And thanks to the two people who responded to my post.

Professionally, I am an academic with research interests in economic and environmental history; environmental risks; and technology assessment. As a citizen, I am interested in the free flow of ideas and knowledge and contributing to literacy, learning and sustainable forms of living. As a person, I love classical music and jazz; photography; and various sports.

My goal in Wikipedia is to contribute to the environmental studies entries. The current listings have relevant material listed under 'ecology' and 'geography.' I'd like in a modest way to help augment these offerings.

I look forward to being a productive member of this community. I hope this is what I was meant to write in this box. :) rainbow pacifist 01:14, 2 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ladycascadia

Hi, I've been creating articles and editing for about three months now, so I figure it's high time I introduce myself.

I am in my 40's, the divorced mother of an adult daughter, and live in Oregon. Although I hold university degrees in Broadcast Communication and International Studies, over the past 20 years, I've worked mostly in various sales, marketing and administrative support positions within the television, media, fashion and marketing industries. The very first article I ever contributed to was the one for receptionist because I felt that it needed a more balanced outlook than what was previously written.

It is my goal to help Wikipedia with creating and maintaining helpful and credible articles. When writing articles here at Wikipedia, I tend to focus on creating or improving articles that deal with office and administrative support as well as in the areas of literature, writers, history, entertainment and media.

Amongst my hobbies and interests I include: reading, creative writing (I have my own literary webzine and blog), gardening, travel to historic points of interest, arts and culture and attending afternoon tea parties. I am also a member of the local garden club, a lay reader at my church, and a member of the Red Hat Society.

Ayush Gupta

I am a Computer Science Student in India, and my age is 17 years. My particular areas of interest are environment (especially Global Warming), reading science-fiction (or otherwise) novels, designing websites and graphics out of interest and for professional purposes, listening to music (I love Linkin Park). I hope my time at Wikipedia will be pleasant and that most of my articles will pass without being voted under the Deletion Cat. The co-operation from other Wikipediaians in all the matters dealt by me will be appreciated.

Hi - as my userpage says I've been using WP a long time, so nobody could actually call me a newbie. Just thought I'd introduce myself as myself, though, rather than as a string of numbers. I'm particularly interested in science, the Government of the United Kingdom and get random interests(!). I also do routine jobs such as syntax repairs and vandalism-watching, dull as they are. I'm a Mexican Chemistry student and I've been editing articles on wikipedia under this username for about a week now (and several months before that, mostly correcting mistakes). I just came across this page through another user's talk page and decided to leave a note. So hi all!! -- Rune Welsh 18:38, May 3, 2005 (UTC)

John Woolley

I'm a deacon in the Anglican Catholic Church. My primary areas of interest (at least of knowledgeable interest) are theology and Church history, English literature (up to about 1900), private-eye stories, Romance languages, and various bits of American and European history and culture. I've been using Wikipedia for a few years, and just recently started fixing typos and adding bits of information.

FireballX301

Greetings. I am a high school student a year away from advancing to higher education. Chief interests are in software development and politics. I've made only a few minor edits here and there, and I've been simply browsing Wikipedia for a while. This place is excellent for doing a brain-dump after a long day. As a student, I doubt I know any more than most about any particular subject, but I am a mathematics person (Calculus at 14) and a bit of a history buff.

An ulterior motive, however, is simply ensuring that every instance of 'FireballX301' that surfaces is, in fact, me. An exercise in narcissism? Or preservation of identity. I'm not sure which.

Main interest is herbs, vegetables and organic growing. Have a site all about sustainable living in urban areas, self sufficient 'ish' . I also know a few bits of psychology, literature and have travelled (a bit) so might be adding to other areas too.

Hello, folks. Currently, I'm a college student at UF. Interests are primarily law, criminology, sociology, and Christianity. I noticed there was no article for Florida Southern College in the ol' hometown, so I started editing. I'll see where it goes from here.

Oh man. It's finals week and I just discovered this site. This is a BIG problem. But I'm having a wonderful time updating lots of things about Yale University. Where are all the other actively-editing Yale students? Veggiesattva 20:38, 4 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm new to Wikipedia, and I really don't know that much about it so far, but I will learn. I'm an 18 year old High School Senior, and I will attend Appalachian State University in the fall. After my Freshman year, I plan on transferring to Warren Wilson College. I want to be an environmental scientist or farmer or something of the sort. I have a very, very open mind.

My main interests are vegetarianism and animal rights, but I also enjoy philosophy and socialogy a great deal. Sexual Psychology is also a topic I have great interest in. I have a great desire to attain knowledge. I know a bit about sciences, classics (latin), and possibly other things. Mistersykes 21:09, 5 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hello all,

Since I discovered Wikipedia, I've been astounded by the amount of information available. When I finally discovered it was a community in which users could edit and add thier own articles, it all made sense. This place is awesome! I plan on spending a lot of time here.

I've started out by adding an article about a place I like to visit quite frequently called Cathedral Gorge State Park. I plan to remain very active. Great to be here!
