St John Ambulance Ireland

The St. John Ambulance Brigade of Ireland (SJAB) is a charitable voluntary organisation in the Republic of Ireland. For constitutional reasons it is not a full member association of Order of Saint John and the international St. John Ambulance, but rather is classed as an "associated body".[1] The Brigade is dedicated to the teaching and practice of medical first aid. It is engaged in first aid training to the public, providing first aid cover at large events, patient transport and community services. The St. John Ambulance Brigade are a well known image through out the country as they apear in venues such as Croke Park,Donnybrook and Dublin Zoo.
Senior Members
The Brigades current Commissioner is Mr.Derek L. Robinson K.St.J,FRCSI and he has held this possision since 1974. He is assisted by a Deputy Commissioner,a Chief Superintendent and seven Assistant Commisioners as well as dozens of staff and district Officers. The current President of the Brigade Council is Mr.Clement J. Ryan,C.St.J. as well as being Concil Chairman.There are seven other Council Members of the Brigade.
History
The first division in Ireland was formed in 1903 at Guinness' Brewery in Dublin by Dr.John Lumsden who became Sir John Lumsden K.B.E and it became known as St.James Gate division. In 1905 the City of Dublin Divison(C.O.D) was formed. In 1909 the first nursing division was formed allowing wemen to join the ranks.In 1914 World War 1 broke out and many members went to provide medical aid.In 1922 the Civil war caused many faitalities but both sides lay down their arms at sight of St.John members.1944 Sir John Lumsden dies.In 1945 The St. John Ambulance Brigade in Ireland becomes St. John Ambulance Brigade of Ireland completly seprate from the Englished based St. John Ambulance.1974 Commissioner Douglas Montgomery dies.

The rank Commisioner is the highest rank unlike the Priory of England and the Islands wich because of its size has many ranks above Commissioner and the highest being Chief Commander.
Also the rank Lance Corporal is only exsistant in the St. John Ambulance Brigade of Ireland.As with the rank Cadet Leader wich the English version,Leading Cadet wich is similer but is a Cadet rank where as Cadet Leader is an Adult rank equivilent to an Adult NCO
