David Ben-Gurion, real name David Gruen, (1886-1973), prime minister of Israel,1948-1953 and 1955-1963, born in Plonsk, Poland. Ben-Gurion was a driving force behind the formation of Israel and became their first prime minister when he announced the formation of the country in May, 1948.
