Maury County (pronounced Mu-rray) is a county located in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of 2000, the population was 69,498. Its county seat is Columbia6.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,594 km² (616 mi²). 1,587 km² (613 mi²) of it is land and 7 km² (3 mi²) of it (0.43%) is water.

Demographics
As of the census² of 2000, there were 69,498 people, 26,444 households, and 19,277 families residing in the county. The population density was 44/km² (113/mi²). There were 28,674 housing units at an average density of 18/km² (47/mi²). The racial makeup of the county was 82.39% White, 14.25% Black or African American, 0.31% Native American, 0.33% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 1.44% from other races, and 1.25% from two or more races. 3.26% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 26,444 households out of which 34.80% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.90% were married couples living together, 12.90% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.10% were non-families. 23.20% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.80% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 3.03.
In the county, the population was spread out with 26.20% under the age of 18, 8.70% from 18 to 24, 29.80% from 25 to 44, 23.20% from 45 to 64, and 12.00% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 94.60 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.30 males.
