Hosni started his professional football career at Al-Ismaily in Egypt, and was the youngest player in the Egyptian 1st Division when El Esmaily won the League Championship in the season 2001/2002. In 2003 Hosni joined the Egyptian National Youth Team U20 in the FIFA World Youth Championship 2003 in the Arab Emirates. In this U20 World Cup tournament he caught the eyes of the big clubs in Europe such as Juventus, Arsenal and also from French sides such as Nantes and Strasbourg, but his club El Esmaily in Egypt refused to release him from his contract.

At the end of 2003 Hosni played in the Arabian club championship final but lost. In the same season he also played the African chmpions league final but also lost. In 2004 Hosni was selected for the first time in his career to play for the Egyptian national team in the African Cup of Nations in Tunisia and was one of the youngest players in the tournament. In summer 2005 Hosni was transferred to France and signed a five year contract with Racing Club Strasbourg.

At the beginning of 2006 Hosni Abd Rabo was called up for the Egyptian national team to play the African Nations Cup in Egypt 2006 but was unfortunately injured just one week before the tournament started and could not play. The Egyptian team eventually went on to win the tournament against the Ivory Coast.

As of the 2005/2006 season RC Strasbourg has been relegated from France's Ligue 1 to Ligue 2. Hosni left the team by a loan for Ismaily of Egypt, he played a season with the Egyptian club. He returned to RC Strasbourg who sold them again in July 2007 to Al-Ahly of Egypt.
