Rhyming with "mass": A type of fish - see bass (fish).

Rhyming with "face": Musically, bass is an adjective describing tones which are of low frequency. Played in an ensemble such notes are frequently used to provide a counterpoint or counter-melody, in an harmonic context either to outline or juxtapose the progression of the chords, or with percussion to underline the rhythm.

In music, with particluar reference to opera, a bass is a male voice, or the singer with the lowest timbre.

Abbreviated name for the musical intruments bass guitar and double bass.
