Causeway Classic
The Causeway Classic is the annual College football game between the University of California, Davis and the California State University, Sacramento. The Causeway Carriage is awarded to the winner.
History of the Game
The two teams first played each other in 1954 and have played every year since. The 50th meeting was held in 2003.
The name "Causeway Classic" began to be used in the early 1980's and is credited to former CSUS sports information director Mike Duncan. The word "causeway" refers to the Yolo Causeway, which is the long bridge on Interstate 80 over the Yolo Bypass that connects Davis, California and Sacramento, California.
Trophy
Since 1961, the winning team has received the Causeway Carriage, an authentic 19th century carriage, as the trophy.
