Texas State Highway Loop 289 is a multi-lane beltway servicing Lubbock, Texas. This limited-access freeway is commonly referred as Loop 289.

Future Development

Loop 289 was designed to meet or exceed Interstate highway standards, and it has been argued that it should be re-designated and signed as an Interstate highway. If this were to occur, it would be signed as a companion beltway to Interstate 27 (likely Interstate 227, since it would be the first such spur off of IH-27). TxDOT, however, does not speculate publicly about future projects, so any plans to rename Loop 289 into an Interstate highway remain rumor and speculation.
