The Bell Jar is a novel by Sylvia Plath. It draws on some events in her lifen and it is sometimes thought of as an autobiographical novel.

It describes a suicidal young teenage woman who undergoes treatment at mental hospital.

Some critics have likened the book to a female version of The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger.
