Soylent Communications is a web-hosting provider based in Mountain View, California, United States. It is also the hub of several websites maintained by the company. The websites vary from shock sites like the rotten.com to thorough information archives like the Notable Names Data Base, which contains more than 60,000 entries encompassing over 26,000 profiles of prominent individuals. However, the website for Soylent Communications itself is simple, containing a brief description on the company, links to several websites that it hosts, and the address to a post office box as the only means of contacting the company.[1]

Business practices

The actions of Soylent Communications seem to suggest motives beyond profit. Rotten.com, for example, appears to be used for activism against internet censorship.[2] "Daily Rotten" News and "the Rotten Library" also appear to suggest political motives. The NNDB displays biographies, information, and connections between people of fame and power that otherwise may go unnoticed by the public at large.[3] Furthermore, the sites maintained by Soylent Communications are void of outside advertisement, due to the contempt for advertisement as posted on the site.[4]
