List of television stations in Bangladesh

The first television signal broadcast in Bangladesh was in 1964 by the state-owned television network BTV. From then onwards BTV had a virtual monopoly until the late 1990's. Ever since then a number of stations had arrived. Many have also shut down in the process.

History

ATN Bangla was the first Bangladeshi satellite channel, which paved the way for more to come. Then came the now defunct A-21 and Ekushey Tv which became the first privately owned terrestrial channel in the sub-continent. During the tenure of the last BNP regime a number of satellite broadcasting licenses were handed out to the lawmakers of the BNP lead alliance, which saw a sudden upsurge of channels in the market. As of late many Bengali channels uplinked from countries such as Thailand, Singapore and the UK have been banned, as they do not have the proper license to downlinked in Bangladesh.
