Last of the Summer Wine is a "Britcom", or British sitcom, which ran for a number of years. The earlier series center around the adventures of three elderly, unmarried friends: Foggy Dewhurst, pompous and boastful; Norman Clegg, "Cleggy", shy and self-effacing; and Compo Simmonite, sly and amorous towards one of the women, Nora Batty.

This show was very unusual for its large regular cast:

  • Foggy Dewhurst
  • Norman Clegg
  • Compo Simmonite
  • Nora Batty, Compo's love interest
  • Walter, henpecked husband, and lover of Marina
  • Pearl, Walter's long-suffering wife and a bit of a shrew
  • Marina, flashy but overage, Walter's love interest
  • Aunty Wainwright, sly and grasping everything-store owner
  • Ivy, owner of a tea-shop
  • Elsie, highly opinionated older woman
  • , her husband, who spends all his time in his workshop
  • Gladys, daughter of Elsie and
  • Barry, husband of Gladys (only occasionally seen)
  • Smiler, sour and not-too-bright comic foil
  • Eli, extremely near-sighted bumbler
  • Barman (only occasionally seen)

are these names all correct?
