Damon Hill copyedit

Hi - I've had a quick go through this article (on the current GA nominations list) and picked up a few minor spelling mistakes and some awkward phrasings. Think it's OK now, if you want to take it off hold. Cheers. If you're still concerned, drop me a line at my talk page and I'll go through it in more depth (Note - there is still one inconsistency on the dates of Damon's racing debut, I'll ask Skully Collins to look into it) 4u1e 20 June

Inconsistent date fixed. 4u1e

Minnesota

I am trying to get the Minnesota article to featured status and could use some help. The sports section is nothing but a list of teams in Minnesota. Do you think you could take that section on as a project? -Ravedave 04:59, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Awsome thanks. I am not sure we should do college teams on that page though, as every college will want their teams there, 30 colleges * 5-10 sports each = too many... -Ravedave 15:23, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunatly I am a Huskies fan, so I definitly can't allow only the U on there :) -Ravedave 02:54, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Can you work on the section in a sandbox so as not to leave the article in an unfinished state? Thanks, -Ravedave 02:24, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Minnesota Baseball

Since you are a baseball nut I thought you might like this, plus it would probably make an great wiki reference [1]. -Ravedave 03:16, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Polisario Front

I'm not trying to get into any sort of article dispute here. I simply was reverting an edit that I recognized as clearly NPOV. I have no opinions regarding this article. In fact, I don't even fully understand the issue. I was only here reverting something NPOV, and am not trying to participate in any argument. (Note: This was also posted on the article's talkpage for the sake of posterity, but I figure this is more of a note to you than a note to the dispute.) Mo0[talk] 01:34, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My block of this user was not for his/her comments on the article or talk page of Polisario Front. Instead I blocked this user because of the following edits userpage vandalism[2] [3] [4] [5]. But what made me block them was the fact that this user made a threat in an edit [6]. My block would not have been so long, if not for the numerous previous blocks before mine. This user needs to learn a lot about editing on wikipedia. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 02:01, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

False Prophet: Do not revert others changes with your misperception of vandalism. I put together the Eagle Heraldry page from scratch and edited the poor alterations later inserted by the others. I will try again. Examine changes carefully next time. Do not change unless what you do is meaningful. Thanks.

Thank you for experimenting with the page Eagle (heraldry) on Wikipedia. Your test worked, and has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Minnesota Sports

If you are trying to add sports info about the state of Minnesota, the biggest news ever is probably Lindsay Whalen. She practically turned the Golden Gopher program around single handedly and shattered every record. She is a minnesota basketball icon, IMHO even bigger than Kevin Garnett. Starze 01:43, 9 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'd be glad to help with the outstate college teams, just let me know when the project starts to take shape, and if their is a specific format for information that you would like to me to follow (Nice to see another Gophers fan as well!) --Colslax 22:46, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Novels WikiProject Newsletter July 2006

Here is the new edition of our monthly newsletter.

The Novels WikiProject Newsletter
Issue II - July 2006
Project news
  • The project's automatically generated worklist Novels without Infobox has been worked through giving infoboxes to most of the {{mystery-novel-stub}}s. This is about to get a regeneration probably with new genres.
  • In addition to the raft of articles on the Simon Templar as The Saint novels added last month, then the Modesty Blaise series and now starting on Matt Helm series. All the inital work of one editor!
  • One editor has been putting in sterling work coverting novel articles from "yyyy books" categorization over to "yyyy novels".
  • Again notice that the {{Infobox Book}} now has a new field for "illustrator" for indicating the name of someone who has illustrated the majority of the novel (or book).
Member News
  • The project has currently 104 members, 16 joined since the last newsletter in mid June 2006.
From the Members

Welcome to the second issue of the Novels WikiProject's newsletter! Use this newsletter as a mechanism to inform yourselves about progress at the project and please be inspired to take more active roles in what we do.

Particularly as this is only the second issue; any comments and suggestions are quite welcome, and will help us improve the newsletter in the coming months.

Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk), Initiating Editor

Auto list news
  • Currently we have two lists that are up and running. Undergoing testing, the third list will contain articles that have incomplete infoboxes. The new list is at NovelsInCompleteInfobox and will be very active as both a new list and a new format are being tested out at the same time. (probably ready for use by 8th July 2006) Eagle talk
Current debates
  • New book related notability proposals have been started and are to be seen at Wikipedia:Notability (books), please take a look at these and comment. These are NOT active yet, although at first sight they seem a good basis.
  • Categorization of novels debate is currently ongoing. Further input would be very welcome.
Current proposals
  • You may have seen proparations going on behind the scenes with a view to establishing a format "Assessment Department". The aim of this will be to aid our efforts in improving novel articles particularly in tune with WP:1.0 and WP:WVWP methdology.
  • There has been a small amount of interest in a Collaboration of the Week/Fortnight/Month, but to be viable we would need support.

He hit the Dunkin' Donuts article of all places, a user tagged him as WOW. I rasied the Defcon as a precaution, Just in case these was more. Seems to have settled down now. Aeon Insane Ward 02:47, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree to your assumption with the Bears article

If these sections are not necessary in the article then the Arsenal F.C. article should be removed from the featured articles list because it has a section involving Arsenal in popular culture. The history section is not as descriptive as the Patroits history because the Bears franchise history is twice as long, and that is why there is a separate daughter article detailing the Bears franchise history. The history section is just a summary. Thanks for reading this --Happyman22 02:36, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I kind of see what people are trying to point out, but is the question calling for the merging of ownership, uniforms and logos into the history section the only obstacle preventing this article from achieving featured status? --Happyman22 03:29, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • I have merged the ownership section into the history section and I am about to expand and divide the history section. I see what you are saying and I will probably get rid of or merge the Honey Bears into the history section. --Happyman22 19:03, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Petition

I agree somewhat. I won't sign it because I don't know if it's anti-wiki. Or, I don't know if anti-wiki is bad. Your petition is trying to address broader issues. My comment is not that it's antiwiki but that it seems like a shoddy method and more convoluted. Something like this needs a long discussion and at least in the short term no stable version should be the first thing people see... unless there is a system. So, I don't want to sign it because I don't agree with it all. I was curious if you would ever support a system that let people choose which version they see as the main version. gren グレン 06:39, 22 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

But you need to take out the petition link in your signature. I had it in mine and Cyde told me to remove it because editors (such as Karmafist) have been blocked for that. GangstaEB (sliding logs~dive logs) 11:53, 22 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

show/hide problems

Essjay asked me to take a look at your show/hide problem on your user page. I believe I have fixed it. The transcluded items have to have some blank space and they also seem to be order dependent. You had membership twice so I removed one copy. I reorged membership and put the userbox for the Fascism project on instead of the link, hope that's OK. I also added some blank lines to the music subpage. I thinhk it's fixed now. Good luck. ++Lar: t/c 03:44, 23 July 2006 (UTC) (refactored to keep threads together)[reply]

Thanks for fixing some of it, but the Affiliations section and the babel section still dont work right. Wikipedia's False Prophet holla at me Improve Me 03:51, 23 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't fix those, I just fixed the first broken one I spotted. Hopefully you can do a diff on the two transcluded sections I changed and try the same changes yourself and be all sorted, once you see what it was I did (and why). Good luck. I'll watch this page for a while to see your replies. ++Lar: t/c 03:55, 23 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, thanks for the barnstar. I take it you were able to suss out what needed fixing. glad to have been of help. Happy editing! ++Lar: t/c 04:33, 23 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Collaboration of the Month
  • Announcing our new Collaboration of the Month which for the month of August is The Mystery of the Yellow Room. This is our first and has already been worked on seeing substantial change (and hopefully improvement). Please get involved and submit other novel titles for future collaborations. If this is successful we can really improve these articles and we may increase the frequency of the title change.
Current debates
  • New book related notability proposals are to be seen at Wikipedia:Notability (books), if you have not seen these do take a look. The debate and level of change has slowed so thi may mean that a concensus is near!
  • Discussion about adding two new fields, Film adaptation and Based on film, to the {{Infobox_Book}} template is going on in the WP:BOOKS talk page.

August Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

Seau - Pats Roster

I understand all the jazz about only posting 'official' information, and am glad to see Seau officially labeled 55 on the template now, but I do take offense at being told my edits 'compromise the integrity of pages'. The NFL official team sites are notoriously slow to update when compared to breaking-news blogs, especially one with the integrity of Mike Reiss'. I believe it fair to invoke Wikipedia standards and rules, which you did earnestly and in truth, but to invoke 'the integrity of pages' was a low blow, and a mark of arrogance. 24.60.119.35 03:03, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mediation case on JumpTV

I noticed that you have closed the case. Actually, the issue has long been settled out of band. You might have noted that there were no message exchanges after the first day. That's because later, JumpTV's director of marketing sent email messages to me and Jimbo saying that his employee will not edit the articles further, and the edits in question will stop thereafter. If you want, I can forward you the emails. So, your recommendation of RFArb based on the assumption that the case was unresolved, should be changed. September Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
What's New?
September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves!
Appreciation Week, a program currently in development, now has its own subpage! Share your good ideas on how to make it awesome there!
The Esperanza front page has been redesigned! Many thanks to all who worked hard on it.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. The proposals page has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  2. Since the program in development Appretiaion week is getting lots of good ideas, it now has its own subpage.
  3. The September 2006 Council elections will open for nominations on 18 September 2006. The voting will run from 25 September 2006 until 30 September 2006. If you wish to be a candidate or a member of the elections staff, please list yourself!
  4. The new Esperanza front page design has but put up - many thanks to all who worked on it!

Mediate us?

Hi False Prophet,

I saw you successfully mediated the Hezbollah page conflict; I haven't been able to get a mediator yet for a dispute I'm in over on the Hong Tran page. Would you mind stepping in? The mediation page is: [7]

Thanks, Emcee 23:40, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi False Prophet,

Although Nottingham is refraining from editing the Hong Tran page while it is in AfD, his recent edits to the Washington United States Senate election, 2006 page make it seem like this conflict could bleed into other pages, and is likely to start back up on the Tran page after the AfD is closed. Given what I've seen thus far, I'm not optimistic that mediation will lead to a collaborative attitude from Nottingham, but I'm willing to give it a try (and I think I need to before an RfA). Could you begin talking with us on this? Btw, Bobblehead and I have differences of opinion on these articles as well, and in my opinion he was a participant in (and perhaps even the one who started) the edit war on the Hong Tran page, but it looks more to me like he and I will be able to work in a civil and sane manner on continuing disagreements. I will leave it up to you as to whether you want to include him in the mediation discussions.

Thanks, Emcee 19:41, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please help

Sorry to bother you, but as an Inclusionist wikipedia things are getting desperate and I need to appeal to your for help. We are facing a situation where a deletionist admin is free to declare inclusionist arguments "absurd" and ignore them at will. If you don't agree with this situation, please share your opinion here. Since you indicated you would be interested in seeing what the deleted article looked like I have put a copy of it in User:JoshuaZ/Sandbox. I would however make the preliminary statement that DRV is not AfD take 2 but is supposed to be about whether the process was followed (although this DRV is getting to be such a mess I doubt anyone will mind yet another user [[WP:IAR|deciding that it is better to ignore that). I ask because I am in the process of compiling a master list of all the projects, active and inactive, out there, and I would like to know whether you think the project page should continue to exist and thus be listed or not. Auto list news
  • Those working on auto generated lists have been a bit quiet recently. However there have been some work done on the /NovelsInCompleteInfobox list, focusing on adding those missing "genre" entries - however after being rerun today after a 2 month gap the number of articles selected has gone up from 1049 to 1172. We need help to ensure the informatin gets added to the infoboxes.

WikiProject Minnesota Twins

Hey False Prophet, I hope you don't mind, but some of the templates and such didn't have "Twins" capitalized, so I went ahead and moved some things. I didn't change the links to the templates on your user page, because I don't think I should go around editing other people's user pages. If you disagree with my changes please let me know.

I am a Twins fan, but I probably won't join the project since I already spend too much time doing other things on WP. I wish you luck, though! --Akhilleus (talk) 20:30, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Aargh, my move(s) screwed things up even more. To follow the standard, the name should be WikiProject Minnesota Twins. I didn't capitalize "Project". Fixing... --Akhilleus (talk) 20:34, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I think I fixed everything, but I went back on what I said earlier and edited your userbox, because I created a double redirect. Again, I hope that I didn't do anything you disagree with. --Akhilleus (talk) 20:59, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Got your message, am working on it. I don't really know what I'm doing yet, so we'll see if I get things to work or not. --Akhilleus (talk) 04:47, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think I got it--see Category:WikiProject Minnesota Twins member. If I screwed something up in the process, let me know. --Akhilleus (talk) 04:50, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If this project doesn't take off for whatever reason, you might consider trying to see if the Baseball project would be willing to take on sub-projects, task forces, work groups, call them what you will. That is, of course, if they haven't already said no to that idea. In any event, good luck with the project. Badbilltucker 16:19, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello False Prophet! Thank you for supporting me during my recently concluded RfA, which succeeded with a final tally of 77/2/0. I hope I live up to the confidence you have shown. I'm still exploring the new tools, so feel free to point out of any mistakes on my part. In case you need help with anything, just leave me a message. Auto list news
  • The NovelsInCompleteInfobox has been regenerated at the start of October and was shown to have grown rather than shrunk! So this month I have concentrated my efforts (with some help from Grey Shadow (talk · contribs)) on the novels missing "genre" tags. These "genre-less" have now "all" been dealt with. Hopefully we can break the back of this load of work, but it will need help. It would be nice to get these worklists to a state where they can monitor the newly created articles rather than cleaning the retrospective material.
Collaboration of the Month
  • The Collaboration of the Month is going well. October's collaboration was slightly compromised by the removal of our notice early on; however there were still nearly 80 edits to improve the article. This months Collaboration has been selected by popular vote and is Doctor Zhivago (novel)
Current debates
  • We have a project structure that allows for the formation of special interest task forces (al la "WP:MILHIST".) This is useful for identifying groups of Novels editors who have a common interest. (i.e. Science fiction novels, Crime Novels, Children's novels, Classic literature, Russian novels etc.) Would there be interest out there in setting one or more of these up. Comments please to the General Forum.
Newsletter challenge

Last months Liponym challenge was met by Springeragh (talk · contribs), but the article is still a "very" small stub.

You have a reply waiting for you at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Admin coaching  The Transhumanist   18:48, 2 November 2006 (UTC) [reply]

November Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.
Signed...
Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

Hi, I have seen that you are using the Cacycle editor extension. This program is no longer actively maintained in favor of its much more powerful successor wikEd.

wikEd has all the functionality of the old editor plus: • syntax highlighting • nifty image buttons • more fixing buttons • paste formatted text from Word or web pages • convert the formatted text into wikicode • adjust the font size • and much, much more.

Switching to wikEd is easy, check the detailed installation description on its project homepage. Often it is as simple as changing every occurrence of editor.js into wikEd.js on your User:YourUsername/monobook.js page.

Auto list news
  • Plenty of work has been done on articles included in the "auto lists" in the last couple of months. Particluarly so for the NovelsInCompleteInfobox list, which is constantly being worked on by a number of editors and most of those missing "genre" entries and quite a number with missing "ISBN" entires have been dealt with. A re-run of this list is due soon, courtesy of user Eagle.
Collaboration of the Month
Current debates
  • A new policy proposal has been started and the various points are to be seen at Wikipedia:Speedy deletion criterion for unsourced articles, please take a look at these and comment. This is a vital subject and all editors should consider the implications. These are NOT active yet, but could have wide reaching consequences. Please contribute your views.
  • We have a project structure that allows for the formation of special interest task forces (al la "WP:MILHIST".) This was mentioned last month and a few have indicated interest. This is useful for identifying groups of Novels editors who have a common interest. (i.e. Science fiction novels, Crime Novels, Children's novels, Classic literature, Russian novels etc.) Would there be interest out there in setting one or more of these up. Comments please to the General Forum. Currently I am considering starting with "Crime Novels" and "Russian Novels" to see what can be achieved.

Admin coaching, etc.

Are you ready to get started?

The waiting time over at Admin coaching is long (some people have been waiting in line since July). I'm an admin coach with the project, and for my students I set up a group discussion page so that we could all learn from each other. The scope of this concept has expanded into the Virtual classroom, which is an open forum for the teaching and learning of advanced Wikipedia skills.

Anyone and everyone is welcome to participate, as a student, as a coach, or both. Every week or two a new major topic of discussion or classroom assignment is introduced, usually with a guest writer who presents his or her expertise on the current subject and who remains on hand to answer questions. Everyone is encouraged to participate in the discussions, such as sharing your expertise, asking and answering questions, etc.

The current topic of discussion is vandalism, and our guest writer is Budgiekiller.

All discussions are open-ended, so all previous discussion topics and classroom assignments are still there for viewing and further participation. There are also sections for posting miscellaneous topics and questions, requesting coaching assistance, etc.

In addition to inviting those who would like to learn, I routinely invite experts from all over Wikipedia to come and contribute for the benefit of all. The VC is rapidly turning into a clearing house of the best resources, methods, and techniques known for working on Wikipedia.

You are cordially invited to participate.

Here's an announcement box which you can place on your userpage or at the top of your talk page for keeping up to date with classroom assignments.

I hope to see you there. Sincerely,  The Transhumanist    07:57, 12 December 2006 (UTC) [reply]

  • Welcome to a new calendar year (for most of us!)
  • During this year we have seen huge a growth in the number of editors contributing to the project and a massive increase in the number of articles linked to the project. We have managed to raise the quality of significant numbers of articles. But with this ever changing beast that is wikipedia there is no room of complacency and there is a mountain of editing work still to do. The member project space has developed and the latest developments are more Outreach options for your use and the establishment of the first "Task Force" for special interest areas within the overall purview of the project.

The Novels WikiProject Newsletter: Issue XII - May 2007

The Novels WikiProject Newsletter
Issue XII - May 2007
Project news
  • The peer review department of the Novels WikiProject is running well after the start in February, having 2 new articles under review: So You Want to Be a Wizard and To Kill a Mockingbird.
  • Our article count has leapt again rising to over 11500. Do get stuck in and assist in improving this rising tide of narrative prose related material. A statistical count of articles can be found here.
  • We have a new project page for Article Style Guidelines which has had a few editors work on it. Currently based on our existing article template it needs some extra eyes to hone any rough edges.
(n.b. also see debates below!)
  • Also to accommodate this page the main navigation template has been slightly reorganised.
Member news
  • The project has currently 229 members, 12 joined & 0 leavers since the last newsletter at the start of April 2007
Other news
Auto list news
  • Our Auto Generated lists appear to have lost the editor who created and supported them. If any other editors have the ability and are willing to have a stab at producing replacement updates, please let us know.
Current debates
  • Of crucial importance to our progress and the way we edit is a debate on the Main Article Template which is strongly recommended for every editor who can, getting involved with. We have worked with the existing template for well over a year now and this debate proposes making radical changes.
(n.b. also see the "Article Style Guidelines" mentioned in "Project News" above)

Shantaram to marry Princess Gregory David Roberts, author of Shantaram, a reformed Australian convicted armed robber has just announced his engagement to Princess Francoise Sturdza of Switzerland, who he plans to marry soon. His life has changed dramatically for the best after the release of his first novel four years ago, which depicted his life in India after escaping from prison. A movie based on his novel is planned for production later this year, starring Johnny Depp in the lead role. [8]

What is a novel? What are the elements that must be found in any piece of writing for it to be considered a novel? I think it fair to say that traditional definitions of the word “novel” work along these lines: A novel is a fictitious prose story of book length. In my view, a novel has six basic elements: 1) It must have a society of characters; 2) They must be undergoing transformations; 3) And those must be in the course of a sustained prose narrative; 4) The sustained prose narrative must be impelled by a plot; 5) And it must be unified by clearly discernible central themes; 6) And to the extent possible, it must be universalised by a complex architecture of allegorical and symbolical sub-strata. If I write those six basic elements into a single definition, I come up with this: A novel is a society of characters, undergoing transformations, in the course of a sustained prose narrative, which is impelled by a plot, unified by clearly discernible central themes, and universalised by a complex architecture of allegorical and symbolical sub-strata.

  • After lengthy discussions about the {{Infobox_Book}} it has settled down at a possibly permanent layout. Any suggestions are still of course welcome.

Image source problem with Image:A Vixen Logo RGB GIF .gif

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:A Vixen Logo RGB GIF .gif. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 18:42, 6 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If you believe you received this message in error, please notify the bot's owner. The Novels WikiProject Newsletter
Issue XVI - September 2007
Project news
  • During August we signed up to the WikiProject advertising facility {{wikipedia ads}} initiative.
  • Our tagged articles now number over 14,000 and more are being added every day. In reality the article count for our project scope is likely to be much higher so the more who can get involved and assist the process of improving the quality of the articles the better.
Member news
  • The project has currently 261 members, 7 joined & 0 leavers since the last newsletter at the start of August 2007.
  • A number of editors have signed up to our "task forces" without signing to the main project so the figure could be slightly higher.
Other news
  • Although many editors are doing sterling work actually working on writing and maintaining articles we could always do with more volunteers to assist with the project wide tasks.
  • Our Collaboration of the Month is in need of more suggested articles for our attention and more votes for those already proposed.

If you still consider yourself an active WP:FILM editor, please add your name to the Active Members list. You may also wish to add {{User WikiProject Films}} to your userpage, if you haven't done so already. We also have several task forces that you may be interested in joining as well.
