Opened in 1925, Meeth Halt was a small halt on the clay carrying North Devon and Cornwall Junction Light Railway to Torrington, a private line until it became part of the Southern Region of British Railways in 1948[1]. Closed in 1966 as part of the Beeching proposals, the line remained open for freight up to Barnstable until 1982[2]. Occasionally, railway memorabilia connected with the station surfaces [3] but the station lives on as a recognisable landmark as a very popular destination for long distance walkers[4].AS a result, it is in the process of a major renovation[5].
