The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) is Australia's navy. It is part of the Australian Defence Force.

Its front-line fleet currently comprises 6 guided-missile frigates, 2 ANZAC class patrol frigates (of 8 to be built) and 3 or 4 (of 6) of the indigeously built Collins Class submarines, widely regarded as the best conventional (i.e. Diesel-Electric, non-nuclear powered) boats in the world. The Navy also operates Seahawk helicopters.
