Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus (born Rome, 106 B.C., died September 28, 48 B.C.) known in the English-speaking world as Pompey the Great, was a leading general of the late Roman Republic and chief rival to Julius Caesar.

Pompey is also the nickname of the city of Portsmouth in Hampshire, England.
