Plot
Story
The beginning of Tournament Mode has Gingy and Shrek competing in a breath-holding contest. Out of no where, Donkey enters the scene with the Fairy God Mothers magic wand. Donkey uses the wand to turn a number of different things into karts like a slug into a swamp beast and Dragon into a smaller version of herself. The characters then hop onto their karts and are off for firece competitions and races.
Gameplay
Shrek Smash and Crash plays like any other kart videogame. The players first must pick from a line-up of thirteen different characters from the Shrek universe. The maxiumum number of racers on a track is six. Each of the characters have special stats that are not displayed in the game. Any other non-human racers will be controlled by the computer and chosen at random. After the racers are chosen then the player has the option to pick the track or cup tournament they want to play on. Once the track is chosen, then the race will begin. The objective of the races is to win in first place. On the tracks are item barrels that contains items inside of them. The items are used as an advantage to help the racer out. The tracks are also filled with obstacles and short-cuts that can either help or harm the racers. On the track, characters also have a special item that can be used to attack other karts or obstacles. If another racer is hit by a special item then they will spin out. The characters also can jump to avoid obstacles or reach other parts of the track. The racer that wins first place in either tournament mode or a regular race then gets to the trophy.

The middle of the track contains a giant boot that can be opened up by driving over the switch and can be used as a short-cut. Towards the end of the track is a giant frog that sticks it's tongue out every once in a while. If the frog's tongue manages to touch a racer, than that racer will spin out.
- Green Forest - Green Forest consists of three laps. The track is full of traps and different routes to take. The spider can be destroyed by the racer's special items or by weapons.

Some of the notable landmarks in this track is the giant Rapunzel castle that can be seen when Shrek and Princess Fiona enter Far Far Away for the first time in Shrek 2. If a racer touches a blade of the windmill, then their kart will spin out. There is also a field full of sheep that racers must drive through. The track is also guarded by two trolls that will try to attack unsuspecting racers. There are also a couple of areas in the track where boulders will roll down the mountain and along the track. If the racers hit the boulders than they will spin out.

On the Track
The tracks also contain many different objects and features that racers can interact with. Below is a list of objects and features that appear on the track.
Item barrels
The item barrels appear on every single track and will give the racer that passes through one an item. The item barrels usually appear in a pair of two or more barrels in a row. There are also some hidden barrels that racers can find by using shortcuts. Some barrels will also only give one specific item everytime a racer passes through it. The items will disappear momentarily once a racer passes through it but it will appear a couple seconds later. This does not apply to barrels that are activated by levers.
Speed boosts
Each track contains several speed boosts. The speed boosts are blue and are also called blue pixie dust. Some are in plain view, while others are hidden down branching paths and behind breakable objects. Racers can race through these glowing blue trails to get an extra boost of speed and an edge on the competition.
Jumps
There are certain areas of the track that racers can simply not reach by jumping regularly. The purple pixie dust will hep these racers reach that certain area of the track. The racer must simply drive to the purple pixie dust and the dust will carry them to that part of the track.
Switches
Some tracks contain levers that will reveal shortcuts, activate traps, and expose item barrels. Some levers are in plain vview while others are hidden and obscure. Racers must simply drive over the lever to activate it.
Mirror Mode
In Mirror Mode, all the tracks are reversed. Mirror Mode can be unlocked by completing Tournament Mode.
