Area code 562
Appearance
562 is the telephone area code for Long Beach, California and surrounding cities, including Cerritos, Lakewood, Downey, Norwalk, and Whittier. Originally this area was part of the 213 area code. When the first split of the 213 area code happened (on 2 November 1991), the area became part of the 310 area code. It was then spit off of the 310 area code on 25 January 1997 to become the 562 area code.
One anomaly in this area code is that all of it is in Los Angeles County except for the cities of Seal Beach and Los Alamitos and the community of Rossmoor, which are in the very northwest corner of the Orange County coastline, and the city of La Habra in the very northwest corner of inland Orange County.
