A mnemonic is a verse or other verbal aid to remembering a list that may otherwise be difficult to remember.

The following is a sampling:
- The personal name Roy G. Biv helps us to remember the order of the colours in the spectrum. In England "Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain" was popular.
- The following from the zodiac helps us to remember the order of the signs.
::The Ram, the Bull, the Heavenly Twins, ::And next' the Crab, the Lion shines, ::The Virgin and the Scales. ::The Scorpion, Archer, and the Goat, ::The Man who holds the Watering Pot, ::And Fish with glittering scales.
- The phrase "Bad Boys Rape Our Young Girls But Violet Gives Willingly" is used to remember the colour coding on resistors, capacitors and other electronic components.
- The phrase "Oh Oh Oh, To Touch And Feel A Girl, Very Sexy & Hot" is used by students of anatomy to remember the order of the Cranial nerves.
