Fairview Mall
Fairview Mall is a shopping centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is in North York, on the north-eastern corner of Don Mills Road and Sheppard Avenue. It is owned by Cadillac Fairview, one of Canada's largest real estate property managers and developers.
The mall opened in 1970 with the Bay and Simpson's as its department store anchors. When the Hudson's Bay Company, the Bay's parent company, purchased Simpson's, it was required to sell Simpson's stores that were co-located with existing Bay stores. Most of these stores were sold to Sears Canada, which now operates the Sears store in Fairview Mall. The Bay still exists today.
Other stores at the mall include the Gap, Rainbow Cinemas, Roots Canada Ltd. and Grand & Toy. Popular chain retail stores including Hallmark Cards, Laura Secord, The Sony Store, Carlton Cards and Second Cup can also be found at Fairview Mall.
Fairview Mall was the fourth fully-enclosed shopping mall to be opened in what was then Metropolitan Toronto, and was the first multi-level mall in the city, as all the others were single-level structures. Only Shopper's World Danforth (a converted factory), Yorkdale Shopping Centre (at the time of its opening the largest shopping mall in the world) and the Don Mills Centre are older.
It is served by Don Mills subway station, the eastern terminus of the Sheppard line. A portion of the mall's parking lot was re-developed into a bus terminal, which is served by Toronto Transit Commission and York Region Transit bus routes.
