What do you think of the first sentence of Gospel music claiming that gospel derives from blues and jazz? I'd be inclined to say the genres developed fairly independently, with modern gospel making use of both blues and jazz. I've heard a cappella gospel songs from the early 20th century which make use of nothing but simple melodies, with others from the same era that have intricate interweaving melodies reminiscent of parts of classical music. Koyaanis Qatsi 02:34 15 Jun 2003 (UTC)

Hm, well, I'm not sure if I should change it, or how to say what I'd change it to. In fact, if I were to do it at all, I'd be inclined to rip off what you wrote.  ;-) Koyaanis Qatsi

There should be some mention eventually of gospel music's ancestor for, spirituals. BTW, Kid Ory among others who knew him said that Buddy Bolden got a good bit of his inspiration for forming the style later to be known as jazz "primitive Baptist" black church music. Anyhow, kudos on your work on tackeling such a wide range of musics! -- Infrogmation 06:30 16 Jun 2003 (UTC)

You deleted Jeff Young without it having been on Votes for Deletion for a week. -- Zoe

I did. It's because I am part of a cabal intent on controlling Wikipedia by keeping silly nobodies out of it. I bet you wish you were part of my cabal, then you could do the same... (sorry, no gurlz allowed) Tuf-Kat

Can gay guyz join? I've deleted something too that wasn't on for a week. But it was all Zoe's fault, so it was. :-P She wrote something that had two meanings, and I took the wrong one . . . *sob* so I guess that nasty GrahamN will start following me around *sob* Can we kick him in the nuts, Cabal-Master? Can we? Please. Please. Please!!! Or send messages in his name to DW/Joe Canuck, so then he can have Joe being really really really nasty to him . . . please . . . Cabal-Master . . . and can we make Zoe an honorary guy, call her Zoel? Pulease? *grin* FearÉIREANN 06:27 17 Jun 2003 (UTC)

But I don't drink guinness, hate it in fact. I drink an ale called Smithwicks -pronounced Smid-dicks (you haven't lived until you have heard French, Belgians or Italians trying to say that word in a bar, asking for smuid-wikks with a barman pretending not to hear so they have to keep trying to pronounce it! over and over and over again) Oh and I am blond - I dyed my hair last week again. I can blend in the growing amount of grey by being blond. Black/brown tends to mean just how grey I am getting can be seen. (I personally blame wiki for my greyness!) I've noticed you've done quite a lot of work on the various "music in .." pages and wondered if you would like to take on the main music page, which is currently a bit stubby. --Eloquence 01:13 20 Jun 2003 (UTC)

Could you add something on the copyright status of the image on No Dice (Image:BadfingerNoDice.jpg). Fair use? GFDL? Who created it, anyway? (etc - blah blah blah).
Have a nice holiday from Wikipedia :) Martin 13:26 20 Jun 2003 (UTC)

thanks :) Martin

do you know anything about Kruder & Dorfmeister? I just posted a rudimentary article about them, but the one article I have of theirs (K&D Sessions, which I don't mind telling you has been on constant rotation since I bought it 3 months ago) doesn't say anything about them inside. I've just found a few sites discussing them, briefly--e.g. VH1 and Rolling Stone, and a page with a fairly biased writeup of them that didn't tell me much I didn't already know (that the person likes their music, and that they've remixed some fairly well-known songs). Anyway, maybe this isn't your kind of music. Just wondering. Koyaanis Qatsi 05:16 28 Jun 2003 (UTC)

You have a friend who's not a wikipediholic!? Is that for lack of trying?  ;-) Koyaanis Qatsi 05:44 28 Jun 2003 (UTC)
So I guess it follows that you wouldn't know immediately how to sort out the general mess of contradictions at electronic music and various subgenres? Because I wouldn't either, and I'm having trouble finding sources I consider authoritative. Certainly I don't consider allmusic.com authoritative. ^_^ Koyaanis Qatsi 06:27 28 Jun 2003 (UTC)

Hello, TUF-KAT. I have read the reference you left me, but it is incorrect. No book on Greco-Roman mythology speaks about Lucifer or Aradia (Herodias), but books on witchcraft do. Herodias, deriving from the Jewish princess, who was against John the Baptist because he rejected her love, was turned into a goddess in early times of Christianity, and possibly in Tuscany, because it was cited as happening in Italy. Lucifer was never part of the Greco-Roman pantheon, and less a brother and consort of Diana. That tradition is posterior. There were warnings concerning this worship in Christian acts from the 10th century. I had left a message on the Village pump. If I acted in a disgusting way to your mind, I offer you my apologies, and it can be changed again, but I thought that the changes I made could avoid confussion among users. I insist in the fact that Herodias (Aradia), as a daughter of Diana and Lucifer, has nothing to do with Greco-Roman myths, and Diana, in those religions, was considered a virgin goddess; not in Wiccan tradition. Any suggestion or whatever, please let me know. Thanks. The Warlock 06:43 28 Jun 2003 (UTC)

Sorry, I forgot to add that the reference you left me is incorrect only in part, for it says Italy (Tuscany), and not Roman mythology; and that Wicca is a syncretic religion that took beliefs from others making some changes as all syncretic beliefs, and Aradia is revered mainly in Dianic Wiccan tradition; Wiccans have taken some traditions and practices from what was known as "witchcraft" and "heresy" (I am not a Christian and I am respectful of all beliefs). I don't think the change I made was in expense of another tradition that is not extrinsically mentioned by your reference, just, precisely, a differentiation between both beliefs. The Warlock 07:28 28 Jun 2003 (UTC)

A page explaining the historic origin of the name Aradia (Herodias), Herodias and an Early Dianic Cult has been created and linked to Aradia's page and to Sabbath (witchcraft), being that Herodias was related to a Dianic cult associated to witchcraft by the Catholic church. I think this is going to make clearer the subject. The Warlock 10:38 29 Jun 2003 (UTC)

Where do you get the chart positions for the album pages? -- Jim Regan 18:18 9 Jul 2003 (UTC)

Thanks - Camembert answered my question for me, but thanks anyway. What was the last consensus on fair use images? It's been brought up again in a few different places, including for album covers (probably cause I uploaded about 20 in one day :) -- Jim Regan 19:40 26 Jul 2003 (UTC)

"Stan"

User:194.51.2.34 has objected to the amount of lyric-quoting in Stan (song), thinking it might be a copyright infringement. They have cut out everything but the first paragraph, replacing the rest with a single sentence. I think perhaps a middle path would be better, but since you appear to be the one who contributed most of the content, I thought I'd ask for your opinion first. Please comment at Talk:Stan (song). Thanks... -- Oliver P. 16:14, 22 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Your assistance is requested at Talk:Hippie. There is a matter under discussion there where you may have some unique insights. Kat 14:53, 26 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Welcome back. Can you please look at what I have been doing on the country music page. I started with a new intro but kept going on the theme that there are two strands to country music. One based on the influence of Jimmie Rodgers and the other based on the Carter Family. I would be interested in your comments Tiles 04:48, 27 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback. I'll work on it Tiles 06:24, 27 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Hi, I see you added links to Culture of Bermuda and music of Bermuda on the Bermuda page, but those pages don't exist (yet)? Are you planning on doing them, or what? Also, shouldn't it have been Music of Bermuda? Noel 19:40, 16 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Hi, regarding your listing of Lorraine G. Bay and Mary Alice Wahlstrom on the VfD page, I don't entirely understand what has been done with 9/11 related personal pages. My question now is, I wrote an article on Jeffrey Collman because I could not find one here, so: A.) did I create a redundant article, or, B.) should it be moved somewhere else? I am currently writing an article for Collman's surviving partner, Keith Bradkowski, who has been in the news lately and I'd like to know if the Collman article should stay. (Bradkowski is newsworthy in his own right, but Collman is only newsworthy due to 9/11, if that helps any.) Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer! :-) Paige 22:39, 17 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Thanks for the redirect of Merchant Marine. vudu 03:27, 23 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Unfortunately I know nothing of the Merchant Marine outside of the US, as far as I know, it is unique to the United States, although I could be wrong. The reason I wrote about it was because it was high on the Wanted list and a number of my favorite writers (Kerouac and Selby come to mind at once) served in the USMM. I'll look into it and get back to you. vudu 03:43, 23 Sep 2003 (UTC)

HI. Please se http://en2.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=Special:Contributions&target=12.207.73.114. I reverted all of this person's odd edits, but if you think they're valid, could you let me know? RickK 01:51, 29 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Wow. You are a star. I am humbled by the amount of work you put in around here. -- Cyan 22:49, 30 Sep 2003 (UTC)

No problem and thanks for writing it. It might inspire me to write some more about it, I just don't like starting articles for some reason. I used to work in Datchet so I should be able to write some more about it really. Angela 02:55, Oct 26, 2003 (UTC)

Hi TK. I don't know if you have been following the debate on the Mother Teresa page. It may not be a topic of interest to you, but as a longterm wikipedian, the interest of NPOV is. We are currently voting to assess the nature of the problems with the page and how it can be salvaged. Your experienced voice would be more than welcome. lol FearÉIREANN 04:45, 27 Oct 2003 (UTC)

Cuba etc

Hi TUF-KAT, I recently encountered Music of Cuba. A great start on a fascinating topic! One comment: it has so many red links that it looks like an American flag! Don't get me wrong: I think that there should be articles on /all/ the topics in the Wiki. It's just that some of the subjects are quite esoteric, and it may be many years before an expert on the topic presents him/herself. I would like to tweak the article a bit, add a few things here and there, and I was wondering whether you would object to my de-linking some of the more obscure items. In the articles I've created, I only leave red links to articles I plan to write the same day or for articles for which there are already a few red links in other places.

Hasta luego, Viajero 11:50, 28 Oct 2003 (UTC)

Hi, you're the person who added Amenhotep as an alternative transliteration for Imhotep. here. Can you tell me what your source was? You're not by any chance confusing him with the Amenhotep who was an architect for a later king (also called Amenhotep, confusingly)? Thanks! Noel 13:06, 28 Oct 2003 (UTC)

They made you change your username because it was 'offensive'? Sounds like bullshit to me...

How is toking 'offensive' to begin with? Pope Pius XII seems more offensive to me... Considering that he was affiliated with the Nazis... But apparently wikipedia isn't about even remotely approaching the truth--it's about 'NPOV', apparently...

I have posted a comment on the talk page of Politics of Canada. This page features by far the most accurate and neutral summary of the Canada/Quebec constitutional issue I have ever read in English. Whoever wrote it, congratulations. Who is responsible for this article? Mathieugp

YUF-KAT, could you do me a favor? Check out the edit I did on skinhead earleir today (it has since been reverted) and post your opinion on the talk page. I'd appreciate it. My version lasted all of 10 minutes and I don't see what is wrong with it. Any help you can give, thanks. vudu 03:03, 19 Nov 2003 (UTC)

Hey TUF-KAT, I made some changes to the Music of Albania article (thanks for writing it) and I also left a couple of questions in the talk page. By the way, do you know what the deal is with copyrights and songs (say if I want to include a small sample of 10 seconds, would this be fair use)? Dori 03:49, Nov 19, 2003 (UTC)

Answer re: copyright query on your talk page. I'm editing this in an attempt at removing the "You have new messages" at the top of my screen. Tuf-Kat 04:13, Nov 19, 2003 (UTC)

the who

I know you do a lot of music articles. I came across one that could use your assistance. The format of Magic Bus: The Who On Tour is off a bit. I'd fix it, but I am not really up on my Who history. be well, Kingturtle 08:02, 20 Nov 2003 (UTC)

Is Primitive Lyrics for real? If so, could you work some magic on it? If not, we should put it onto VfD. Kingturtle 23:05, 28 Nov 2003 (UTC)

Are you sure the Inkatha Freedom Party is only open to blacks? --snoyes 05:53, 30 Nov 2003 (UTC)

Hmm, I'm honestly surprised that they are not clearer about that on their homepage (BTW, horrible colours there ;-) ). I'm pretty sure that it would actually be illegal to have a race-exclusive party in south africa today. I'll do a bit more probing at a later date. Thanks for the stub. --snoyes 06:04, 30 Nov 2003 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome and the heads-up. I'm still in the exploration phase (though I realize that phase shall probably last forever on this site), but I think I'm learning the "right" way to get things done. At the moment I've been hanging out and adding my little share to pages more under the radar (as far as I can tell). I'm pretty impressed with the music selection, but I think the comics could be nudged a bit, and a little bird dabbling here and there... Unifex 08:12, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Hey, Tuffy. Thanks for editing the Culture of Israel page. Let me know when you're done and I will have a go at it too. There is a lot missing, and I've worked with some of the people professionally, so I know this topic fairly well (I also edited the major English text on Israeli Mediterranean music, so I feel pretty competent on that subject). re: four-elements of hip hop

That's fine if you don't feel the page merits its own entry, however, the 9-elements of hip hop are real. And KRS-One did state them when he first founded the Temple of Hip Hop, and he also proclaims them in a few songs. Lyrics to the Song Hip Hop Knowledge ... now I suppose if any other rapper had said this it wouldn' matter too much, but KRS has been attempting, since the mid 90s, to put forth a new image for hip hop. He would often say, "Hip hop is not something you do, but something you live." Through foundation of the Temple of Hip Hop he has attempted to redefine a lot of things, and I think it merits entry in an encyclopedia such as Wiki. Dead 16:09, 12 Dec 2003 (UTC)
