Wikipedia:Proposed article mergers
Appearance
Wikipedia:Utilities : Wikipedia:Pages needing attention : Duplicate articles
This is a list of duplicate articles that have been created mostly by mistake. They have to be merged into a single piece of work and one title has to be redirected to the other (or a completely new page is created) in accordance with Wikipedia:Naming conventions and Wikipedia:Canonization. After a pair has been merged, it can be removed from the list.
Consider using the following boilerplate text at the top of articles that need merging:
- :''This article should be [[Wikipedia:Duplicate articles|merged]] with [[ARTICLE]].''
The creation of duplicate articles, and the wasted effort this causes, can be avoided by creating lots of redirects. Also, when creating new articles, search for existing articles on the same subject.

Articles to be Merged
A
- A (includes two versions)
- Abila and Abilene, one from the 1911 EB and one from Easton. Adam Bishop 22:03, 30 Sep 2003 (UTC)
- Accademia dei Lincei and Linceans refer to the same Italian science accademy. Gentgeen 11:07, 29 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Air gun and pneumatic rifle, Rmhermen 14:51, Nov 21, 2003 (UTC)
- Alfred Ernest Albert and Duke Alfred of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Maximus Rex 00:40, 28 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Anointing and Anoint (the former is an orphan) --Anthropos 18:13, 3 Dec 2003 (UTC)

- Antilock braking and Anti-lock braking system -- Anthony DiPierro 00:48, 17 Dec 2003 (UTC)
- ANSI C standard library and C library. -- ANSI C standard library has much more than just about ANSI C. --Taku 05:02, Oct 29, 2003 (UTC)
- See article talk - these shouldn't be merged - one is a specific library meriting discussion, the other a discussion of the whole range of libraries for the language and how they are implemented. JamesDay 13:37, 17 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- ANSI C standard library and C standard library
- Ascorbic acid and Vitamin C -- convention for other vitamins is to have the article under the chemical name, so the latter should be merged into the former. -- Zack 20:04, 2 Dec 2003 (UTC)
B
- Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor's degree ?
- No, keep them separate. --Jiang
- Baja California and Baja California (state) both contain information about the state of Mexico, however Baja California is probably supposed to be about the peninsula alone. andy 11:48, 1 Sep 2003 (UTC)
- Since many articles linked to both, I just merged the content and redirected to Baja California. --Minesweeper 07:40, Nov 14, 2003 (UTC)
- Bronx and Bronx County, New York are the same place. Also, Brooklyn, New York and Kings County, New York are the same place. Note that mergers have already been accomplished for duplicate articles previously at Manhattan/Manhattan, New York/New York County, New York, Queens/Queens County, New York, and Staten Island, New York/Richmond County, New York. -- Cjmnyc 04:37, 31 Aug 2003 (UTC)

C

- Cluster fuck, Snafu, HUA quotient, Shit sandwich, Military slang, List of US Army acronyms... How about a section in slang? Anon. Note: some of these have been deleted and moved to Wiktionary. Angela. 11:48, 19 Dec 2003 (UTC)

- Composition series and Solvable group Not duplicates (solvable means a particular kind of composition series, is all). Charles Matthews 12:53, 17 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Composite type and Composition
- Consulate general and consular office seem very redundant; do we really need to split this into two articles? Alex756 03:03, 2 Oct 2003 (UTC)
- Cossack and Kozak
- Courland and Livonia are both on Courland. Livonia is separate from Courland and needs its own article.
- Cow and Cattle. Duplicates. RickK 05:03, 21 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Criminal law and Penal law are they same, as both articles state
- Penal law is no longer about the same thing as criminal law; penal law focuses on the laws of religious conformity in England and Ireland. -- IHCOYC 18:47, 19 Aug 2003 (UTC)
D
- Datatype and programming language. Programming language has lengthy discussion of type-system which is rather too detailed and off-topic in the article. -- Taku 23:27, Nov 15, 2003 (UTC)
- Datatypes and how they are handled is one of the defining characteristics of a programmnig language, as are the programming paradigms which the language is intended to implement. Both belong in this article, though not covered in as much depth as specialized articles on those subjects. JamesDay 12:51, 17 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Of course, it is. My point is that discussion in programming language seems rather too detailed and has metions which seem off-topic somehow. Put in another way, discussion datatype per se is not off-topic at all. -- Taku 21:31, Nov 22, 2003 (UTC)

I
- Imperative programming and Procedural programming
- Sorry if it seems like I'm going after you, I sure don't :) Anyway, these are not the same, as there are imperative and non-procedural programs. I'm not sure whether there are non-imperative procedural programs though... Nikola 07:29, 15 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- No. They are not the same but the basic idea of them is the same. Merging is the sake of readers who might wonder what are differences between them. -- Taku 23:31, Nov 15, 2003 (UTC)
- These are distinct concepts arriving at distinct times in the history of computer science. They need to be kept apart. Imperative rpogramming is also an excellent term to use to hide an article from most practitioners in the field. JamesDay 12:42, 17 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Indian Army and Military of India - The former is more a historical note but probably should be merged with the latter - Nilmerg 12:34, 17 Dec 2003 (UTC)
- Indian food and Indian cuisine -- overlapping content
- now brute-force merged, but the result needs substantial editing... -- The Anome 13:01, 7 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Integer (computer science) and Computer numbering formats
- This is an oversimplification. Computer numbering formats duplicates content of a whole bunch of articles: Binary numeral system, Data type, Floating point, ASCII, Binary-coded decimal, etc. It looks like Computer numbering formats is an article pasted verbatim from an external site with minimal wikification (the article is marked public domain -- this is not a copyright issue) which ought to be broken up and its content distributed among the various other pages. I don't think it's very encyclopedic as it stands. Zack 07:34, 20 Oct 2003 (UTC)
- International relations theory should be merged into international relations. (And for that matter, the international relations theory article really needs some work and wikification; right now it's a jumbled mess.) --Lowellian 01:51, Dec 6, 2003 (UTC)
J
