Location of the council in Queensland

Cassowary Coast Regional Council is a Local Government Area in Queensland, Australia. The Local Government Area was created on 15 March 2008 as a result of the report of the Local Government Reform Commission released in July 2007. The Council, located in North Queensland, contains the entire areas of two previous Local Government Areas;

The report recommended that the new local government area should not be divided into wards and elect six councillors and a mayor. The Cassowary Coast Regional Council covers an area of 4,701 square kilometres (1,815 sq mi), contains an estimated resident population in 2006 of 30,843 and has an estimated operating budget of AUD64m.

The Regional Council covers the towns of Cardwell, Flying Fish Point, Innisfail, Mission Beach, Mourilyan and Tully as well as many offshore islands such as Dunk Island, Goold Island and Hinchinbrook Island.
