Howdy. Great work on the Hebrew/Arabic/Cyrilic transliterations you've been busily adding. Are you some amazing polyglottal overman, or are you cut'n'pasting them from somewhere else? Either way, they're a super addition. -- Finlay McWalter 18:20, 15 Dec 2003 (UTC)
- Kinda both. I only speak English and dodgy Spanish but I'm interested in languages and writing systems and I did a lot of work finding the native ways to write many foreign terms that pop up in English over on Everything2 so I'm bringing them all over here since this site is so cool. - I have to confess to liking them, particularly the hebrew and arabic, mostly for their aesthetic appeal. Coincidentally, I'm curious why you elected to contribute to Wikipedia after your Everything2 experience. Having only contributed here (and being aware of our shortcomings, but not of e2 or h2g2's) I'd be interested in how you find the contrast between the two. -- Finlay McWalter 00:39, 16 Dec 2003 (UTC)
- I've also got Chinese, Japanese, and a bunch of miscellaneous stuff waiting. Then I'm hoping to do some Sanskrit stuff I just came across. I'd been using Everything since 1999 when it was still E1 and I like the community feel over there but every so often there's a schism and things get deleted or policies change or whatever. When E2 went offline for a month or so to move the server across the country I was doing a google search for "Linguaphile" which is a project of mine and discovered that somebody had made an article about it on Wikipedia. So even though I'd read a bunch of stuff on Wikipedia before I'd never delved into it. This time I wanted to edit the article and make a Spanish and a German version. I really like the way everybody perfects a single article here compared to E2's article-per-person. Though I like their way too - I'm glad there is a place that works each way. - We have server problems sometimes too (but a spanky new $6000 server seems to be improving things greatly). We also have a few (well, one, that I can think of) people who want to be the sole-owner of an article. I restrain myself from telling that person "well, get thee to E2 or h2g2 then", as their contributions are generally excellent. It does, I confess, take some "personal maturity" to accept some dude rewriting your magnum opus. -- Finlay McWalter 01:16, 16 Dec 2003 (UTC)

- Thanks, you answered my question in your esperanto and french discussion pages. The esperanto wikipedia community may considere the arguments. I remember that I've seeen discussions in the french wikipedia whether put the languages links at the bottom or to let them at the top. I don't know if one reached any conclusion. I shall submit this discussion in the esperanto wikipedia and you will know. Arno Lagrange 08:59, 17 Dec 2003 (UTC)
Hi, if you know the Bengali script for Bangladesh, can you add it there? --Jiang 12:12, 21 Dec 2003 (UTC)
- Thanks Jiang, I've added it (বাংলাদেশ). I hope it's correct. Hippietrail 12:18, 21 Dec 2003 (UTC)
Great! Actually, the full name "People's Republic of Bangladesh" would be even better. --Jiang 12:22, 21 Dec 2003 (UTC)
