In Canada, an Air France Flight 358 jet burst into flames after skidding off the runway at Toronto Pearson International Airport at 3:50 pm local time. The plane has been confirmed as being an Airbus A340-300 with a capacity of up to 305 passangers and crew. The plane is still on flames with smoke billowing from a wooded area near Highway 401, Canada's busiest highway.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported that the crash occurred two hours after operations at the airport were grounded because of severe thunderstorms in the area.

There is speculation as to why the fire began but nothing is certain yet. So far no deaths can be confirmed or denied.

News media is reporting at least one survivor. The pilot and an unknown number of passengers have been taken to hospital according to the latest media update. Some passengers were so dazed and confused that they walked onto the highway.
