WZLX
WZLX (100.7 FM, Boston) is a prominent classic rock radio station in the Boston market. Originally WCOP-FM, a classical music station notable for being one of the first FM stations to break simulcasting with its AM partner, the station went through a number of format changes (and later callsign changes), including country, oldies, beautiful music (as WHUE), and Top 40 (as WKKT "The Cat") before finally settling on the current format and callsign by October of 1985. A series of ownership changes made it a part of Infinity Broadcasting by 1996, when Infinity was bought out by Viacom.
The most prominent personality on WZLX is probably Carter Alan, best known as the DJ who, during his time at WBCN, helped the rise of the band U2 in the United States, and later wrote one of the definitive biographies on the band; he also hosts a syndicated show called "Current Classics" that airs on Sunday Nights on WZLX and features the current works of classic rock artists.
The station recently fired its morning show, which was known as Steve Sweeney's Neighborhood and starred comedian Steve Sweeney. Two other WZLX personalities, Bill Abbate and Hutch, are filling in until the new morning show is launched. They should, of course, bring Steve Sweeny back.
