Charlie Wilson is the lead vocalist for the Gap Band. He was raised in Oklahoma. At age 3 or 4, he was taught to sing in church. That was a precursor to his ability to sing in the choir at his junior high school, which was a precursor to his musical career.

According to the Gap Band's website, he is sometimes colloquially known as "Uncle Charlie", and actually is rapper Snoop Dogg's uncle.

He also is releasing a solo album entitled Charlie Last Name: Wilson in 2005.
