Thank you for the message; an additional question

Thank you for the welcome message! I appreciate the links. I do have an additional question regarding the rules of Wikipedia - specifically, the use of the Talk pages nearby certain articles. I have recently started asking for clarification or additional information relevent to a specific article, for reasons of my own personal curiosity. As a result, I suppose the questions do not directly contribute to the writing of the article (though it may cover additional information on the same subject that might be useful to add to the article, or that others may be wondering about). Is this a misuse of the web site?

Thank you very much for your time and assistance. -Brasswatchman July 31, 2005. 3:03 PM EST.

Thanks for the welcome

Hello, Sango, and thank you for the welcome to Wikipedia! As a newbie I greatly appreciate the introductory info, &c. It answered most of my questions, including an annoying issue I had with an article I just created, so I appreciate it. Flying Oaf 04:35, 1 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a bunch! But while I'm here...

Hey, first off, thank you for the warm welcome on my talk page. I really appreciate it!

I have a question though while I'm here. I know, I've been bad and I haven't had a chance to fill out my profile page yet with anything yet (I swear, I'll get to this soon!), but I seem to have run into a problem.

We've been having an ongoing debate at Talk:Metroid: Zero Mission with regards to a timeline/continuity issue for that game. Right now, we're taking an unbiased poll with regards to how the article should officially read. One of the users, User:Dai Grepher, is the only one on the opposite side of the argument, and he's finally started to become an annoyance outside the debate whereas before he limited his comments to the debate. He actually edited my user page, putting some rather unpolite comments on there. (See the history of the page and you'll find them.)

Should I do anything about this? Can I do anything about this? The Missing Link 06:57, 1 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for looking into this for me, Sango. I really appreciate it. If you could, let me know what, if anything, comes out of it. Oh, and congratulations on your promotion to administator!  :) The Missing Link 02:37, 3 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Sango, I pointed out personally to User:Dai Grepher in our debate topic (at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Metroid:_Zero_Mission/prequel-remake#Final_Thoughts) that he has not answered your inquiry about the post yet. Hopefully this should convince him to answer you shortly. Again, thanks for looking into this for me. The Missing Link 03:25, 8 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Thank you for your vote of support on my recent RfA. I was quite surprised by the amount of support I received, and wish to extend my thanks to you for taking the time to support my nomination for adminship. -- Longhair | Talk 12:20, 1 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I read that what wiki is not, but what I exactly did wrong?

Pic of the day

Hi Sango,

Since Robert Southworth may not be around or active, I thought you might also like to know that his photo Image:American Eskimo Dog.jpg is up for Pic of the Day tomorrow. You can check the caption at Wikipedia:Picture of the day/August 2, 2005. -- Solipsist 19:11, 1 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It seems that your support vote has been overwritten in an editing conflict. I thought about restoring it myself, but I think you should just so it won't look like I used your name. Thank you! Y0u (Y0ur talk page) (Y0ur contributions) 20:05, August 1, 2005 (UTC)

Never mind, someone else restored it. Y0u (Y0ur talk page) (Y0ur contributions) 20:08, August 1, 2005 (UTC)

thanks for the welcome

I'm participating in Wiki for quite some time btw :D from January I guess

Congrats!

Hi Sango123: Congratulations on your promotion to admin! I'm glad that your RfA went well. The cake was tasty, just the thing to hit the spot after a long, but extremely exciting orchestral tour. I guess we'll both be slaving away over at WP:VFD/Old now, huh? Congrats again, Bratschetalk 5 pillars 21:00, August 2, 2005 (UTC)

Hey thanks for the welcome, much appreciated :)

Hi again!

Hi Sango, just saying recommending that instead of typing {{User:Sango123/Welcome}} type {{Subst:User:Sango123/Welcome}}. This does 3 things. It takes away stress on the server, it makes it so I can't go to your message and type F--- OFF! and have it replace all the messages you've left, and it makes the users feel less brochured... Like when you left me a {{PAGENAME}}... Cheers Sango, Redwolf24 02:47, 6 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

.JPEG uploads

Hi there,

Wikipedia is an excellent source in many ways and there are some very learned articles or alternatively there are some first rate wafflers out there. Publication does expose you to a lot of critics and critics are born ready made.

One problem for me is uploading a jpeg My effort fails every time. I suspect that it is an issue with the curly brackets and PD part. The source line read something like picture-dot-jpg then TWO curly brackets PD close brackets

Was that right? The computer literate among us are prone to put in extra brackets as in <ENTER> and it all means something but one does not actually use them at run time.

I am open to comment.

Yours

A question

I am glad to have found Wikipedia; it has been very useful in my researches of certain subjects. However, I am a little curious; I've been wanting to put my Star Trek roleplaying information up (and I am unsure if I can do my own Wiki page, short of buying it - I'm a little bit broke). The problem is, the characters I create and the logos I manipulate are based off something else. For instance, I use real actors to portray my characters, except if the characters happen to be drawings...and the logo I use for my Reydovan Empire storylines is based on the University logo from Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. Would this present a problem, even if I posted disclaimers saying, "The manipulation is mine, the source images are not"?

Thank you,

Joshmaul 15:22, 6 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

RE: A question

The actors I use I mostly found on fan pages, so I'm thinking that if they managed to get a hold of them and they haven't had copyright infringement suits thrown at them (some pages I access have been up for several years), it must be in the public domain. I haven't seen any copyright warnings or anything. As for the symbols (i.e. using a symbol from a Sid Meier game in some of my images), I BELIEVE I found them on Firaxis' website, apparently released as a wallpaper. I understand the whole copyrighting deal, but I just need to double check just in case.

Sincerely, Joshmaul 15:33, 6 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

A belated thanks

Thanks for welcoming me a while back. It's nice to be noticed. I think you're doing a nice service to the community by welcoming new users.

I've had the thrill of posting mhy first "from scratch" article on Wikipedia. The topic is Somatic Experiencing. Writing it was a very satisfying expeience. (I hope watching it be taken over by the community is equally satisfying :-) :-) I imagine writing for Wikipedia is an excercise in "letting go". Lcuff 20:34, 6 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

hello

I think wikipedia is great, but it's so overwhelming!

Thank you for your welcome message

I have a lot of questions, but I dont like to ask before searching. I shall read the tutorials, and if my questions remain, I ll disturb you. thank you.

Hello! Thank you so much for the welcome. It really was appreciated.

You were published at age 12? Lucky! I'm older than 12, but I'm working on a manuscript of my own. Congratulations to you!

Squirrel speak, eh? Congratulations, I'll have to learn how to speak that one. ;)

Thanks for your support

Thank you for supporting my recent RfA. I was surprised and humbled by the number of positives votes. I'll be monitoring RfA regularly from now on and will look for a chance to "pay it forward". Cheers, --MarkSweep 02:32, 7 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Appreciate Your Welcome, Would Appreciate Further Advice

Sango, thanks for the introductory message -- I'm sure I'm not the first to appreciate it and that I won't be the last. If you have a chance, I would also appreciate a bit more of your time to help resolve a dispute that has arisen on the Lost Liberty Hotel article. The discussion page and history should provide ample details, but please feel free to contact me directly if needed. No doubt the other users involved would appreciate your inquiries if you do elect to help resolve this. --OtisTDog 05:12, 7 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Another Thanks

Hi Sango, just wanted to add my thanks for your message of greeting and the useful links! One question I did have, was how do you generate date/signature stamps...found it amongst the links you gave, but this seems so important that I would suggest adding an extra blurb about the three or four tildas to your greeting message. Thanks again! Erasurehead 06:20, 7 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanx and Question

Hey ya - thanx for the welcome and the opportunity to ask questions, because I actually have one on which I could not yet find any information: Is it possible to use my userID on a different language wikipedia as well? I would like to work on different ones but creating several accounts would make things much more complicated for me and also others couldn't trace my work on the other language sites. Thanx again. Hello, I've been trying to understand the content of the copyrights pages and find mostly how others may use Wikipedia pages as a source, but am still confused what one may put on a Wikipedia page, including Wikiquote. For example, a Wikiquote page on an author may include quotes that are all from some copyrighted sources: May such quotes be taken from those sources and added to the author's Wikiquote page? I am familiar with the fair use right that among some original material copyrighted material may be used without permission, but the Wikiquote pages are not exactly original, except that it is an original "quote page", so copyrighted material is not embedded in an original context. I hope I've clearly stated my question.

Thank you, BeyondBeyond 16:02, 7 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

hi

hi, thnks heh, I'm not exactly new to wikipedias as I've been working with the MusicBrainz project for quite a while. Wikipedia is really usefull when searching for information. especially since if you find something wrong here you can change it :).

I was actually wondering about something, I had an older account called 'Mo-saurus' some time ago but I think the email I used for it is an old one I've deleted, because the 'get a new password' rutine doesn't get me one at my current email. I'm rather happy with my new username, but will it be ok if I redirect Mo-saurus to ZaphodBeeblebrox?

anyway thanks for sending out newbie messages. it startled me at first, but it's rather nice to have all the "starter"-links in one place like that. thanks :) ZaphodBeeblebrox 16:10, August 7, 2005 (UTC)

I'm going to steal this one right out from under Sango: Yes, it's perfectly acceptable. You might want to put a note on your userpage saying that it used to be your account. -- Essjay · Talk 18:35, August 7, 2005 (UTC)
By the power of Mozilla Firepanda (or maybe Mozilla Powersquid, depends on the day), I declare you, Essjay, too handy for your own good. ;) Thanks anyway. Sango123 20:18, August 7, 2005 (UTC)

Hey thanks for the welcome message

=) hopefully i'll get better at editing and using html sutffs.. i dont really get the copyrights stuff.. hopefully some of my images i uploaded dont violate any of whats in the copyrights

Thanks!

Hey there!

Thanks for the message that you sent me. I'm still thinking of how can I improve them. The Qatar Airways article was a mess actually. So I thought of improvising them since Wikipedia is for all to use. There are few other articles that I improvised. I'm still looking at which articles that I can help to create or improvise. Thanks for wishing me happy national day! :):):)

Primary candidates VFD

Many of the candidates for the June 14, 2005, congressional primary have been proposed for deletion. I am writing those who worked on election articles to request that they offer their votes against the proposal. The VFD's can be found starting at Wikipedia:Votes_for_deletion/Log/2005_August_8#Peter_Fossett. It is my view that we ought to provide a complete record of the election and my deleting so called "minor" candidates we do a disservice to them and the historical record. Please vote against all these proposals.PedanticallySpeaking 14:54, August 9, 2005 (UTC)
