S. K. Gurunathan
S.K.Gurunathan, (born 1 August 1908 - died 5 May 1966), was a fine sports journalist and is regarded as the father of cricket statistics in India.
He was a stylish wicketkeeper in his youth and represented the Indians in the Madras Presidency matches. He then served as the cricket correspondent for The Hindu and later became its sports editor till his death. He founded the Madras Sports Annual which covered local cricket and other sports between 1938 and 1952. While at Hindu, he started the Sport and Pasttime which ran for about twenty years and ceased publication soon after his death. It was revived ten years later as the Sportstar and is currently the leading sports publication in India.
His greatest contribution to cricket was the founding of the annual Indian Cricket in 1946 on the same lines as the Wisden Cricketers' Almanack. Indian Cricket is into its 57th edition now. He also regularly contributed to the Indian section of the Wisden.
