Harry Parkes (diplomat)

Harry Parkes (1828 - 85) was a 19th century British diplomat who arrived in Japan in 1865. He was friendly toward the Bakufu's rivals and had some influence in the Meiji government as a result. Parkes worked in Japan until 1883, when he was posted to China.
