Avis Rent A Car System Inc.is a car and truck company founded in 1946 in Detroit by William Avis.

The company established branch operations across the U.S. over the next few years, and during the early 1950s opened it's first international offices in Europe, Canada and Mexico. Avis currently operates nearly 4000 branch offices world-wide, including locations in Australia and New Zealand, the Central American and Caribbean regions, South America and Africa, and is one of the largest vehicle rental agencies in the world. Avis world headquarters is located at Parsippany, New Jersey. Their corporate motto is "We Try Harder".
