WrestleMania IX was the ninth annual WrestleMania professional wrestling pay-per-view event produced by the World Wrestling Federation. The event took place at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada, the tagline was "An Event of Epic Proportions".
WrestleMania IX was built around two main storylines: the unstoppable Yokozuna challenging Bret Hart for the WWF Championship; a right he earned by winning the 1993 Royal Rumble, the first man to win a WrestleMania title shot at the Royal Rumble (although, Hulk Hogan had won the 1991 Royal Rumble and went onto face Sgt. Slaughter at WrestleMania VII, his title shot was not granted because of that victory); and the return of Hulk Hogan, who had departed the WWF following WrestleMania VIII, teaming up with Brutus Beefcake, to take on the WWF Tag Team Champions, Money Incorporated (Ted DiBiase and Irwin R. Schyster).
WrestleMania IX also took a novel approach to its arena by placing it outside in the open air at the risk of possible rain and other weather related incidents.

Notes
- This was the first WrestleMania held entirely outdoors, fifteen years later WrestleMania XXIV was held completely outdoors at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.
- This was the first WrestleMania not to use the traditional red, white, and blue ring ropes. Instead, black and gold ropes were used to coincide with the Ancient Roman theme. The following year, WrestleMania X would use the same set of ropes, ring apron, and banners.
- A scheduled match between Bam Bam Bigelow and Kamala did not take place. This was the second WrestleMania to have this occur, the first being WrestleMania VIII.
- Announcer Jim Ross made his WWF debut at this event.
- This was the first WrestleMania to have two WWF World Title Matches on the same card. It has also been the only WrestleMania to have the WWF World Title change hands twice on the same night. Another interesting note is that both WrestleMania IX and X feature a WWF World Title Match between both Bret Hart and Yokozuna. These two were the first in WWF history to main event two WrestleManias against each other for the World Title and remain the only two to do it at consecutive events.
- In the Playstation 2 video game WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2006 you can unlock this as an unplayable arena by completing all Superstars Challenges.
- Hulk Hogan suffered a serious injury to his left eye prior to WrestleMania IX, Hogan's eye was completely black and nearly swollen shut. Below is some information regarding the injury:
- For storyline purposes, the injury was accounted for by Hogan saying that "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase hired several thugs to try to take him out of the match the night before the event. Therefore DiBiase and his partner Irwin R. Schyster wouldn't have to defend that WWF World Tag Team Titles against Hulk Hogan and Brutus Beefcake; their scheduled opponents.
- The actual cause of the injury in question has been open to debate. Rumor has it that it was Randy Savage that hit Hogan in the eye during a bar scuffle; this stems from tension between the two former friends regarding Savage's ex-wife Miss Elizabeth. Hogan claims the injury occured as a result of a jet ski accident.
- This was Giant Gonzales' first and only WrestleMania appearance. On the card he faced The Undertaker, whom as of 2008 is an unprecedented 16-0. The match had ended in a disqualification victory for the Undertaker. To date this is the only time The Undertaker has won a match by disqualification at WrestleMania.
- The conclusion of WrestleMania IX has been met with debate by many over the following years. Some fans enjoyed the conclusion and others had not. Despite the fact that many people began to tire of Hulk Hogan's act; there was no question he was still wrestling's top draw. Many people argue that Hogan's impromptu title win was a means of playing backstage politics and discrediting former champion Bret Hart, whom Hogan had allegedly refused to drop the title to in a proposed match at WWF SummerSlam '93. Below are some reasons why this may not be the case:
- Lex Luger was being groomed as the next top babyface of the company; this was due to Hulk Hogan's days in the WWF being numbered. In a WWF World Title rematch at King Of The Ring, Hulk Hogan dropped the championship back to Yokozuna. Hogan would later show up in WCW after the Yokozuna rematch. Making Luger the successor to Hogan at the time had made sense. With an impressive physique and a proven track record as a World Champion in WCW he had proven to be very over with the fans. Since Yokozuna's debut he was pushed as being an Anti-American and this gimmick was successful as he proved to be a popular heel champion. With Hogan now out of the picture, making Lex Luger an "All-American Good Guy" in pursuit of the WWF Title made it possible to continue the federation’s anti-USA stoyline with Lex Luger in Hulk Hogan's role. This made made Yokozuna a stronger heel champion in the process. Despite this huge push, Luger would come up short in his pursuit of the WWF World Title. Eventually he would part ways with the WWF and return to WCW.
- At WrestleMania X, Bret Hart defeated Yokozuna for the title in a rematch from WrestleMania IX. The way the WWF World Title picture had ended up being booked puts some holes in the theory that there was an agenda against Bret Hart as the storyline played out where he was able to avenge his loss against the very same man he lost the World Title against. Though it is very possible that Hulk Hogan could have been against dropping the title to Bret Hart, the less than partial nature of the internet wrestling scene makes it hard to really know what the true motives of all the parties involved actually were.
