Area code 442
Appearance

North American area code 442 is a telephone area code that will be split from area code 760 and encompass most of the northern area of San Diego County. Callers may begin dialing 442 in the fall of 2008; 442 becomes mandatory in spring 2009. A grassroots effort by affected residents, called Keep760.org, has spurred eight San Diego County elected officials to send an urgent letter to the CPUC asking them to delay and reconsider their decision.
