The Mighty B! is a current Nickelodeon show created by Erik Wiese (previously a storyboard artist and writer on SpongeBob SquarePants), Cynthia True (previously a writer on The Fairly OddParents) and Amy Poehler (of Saturday Night Live fame). Amy Poehler also provides the voice of the title character, Bessie Higgenbottom. Its first episode premiered on April 26, 2008.

Plot

Bessie Higgenbottom is determined to be the best Honeybee scout ever by collecting every single badge. Bessie believes that when she gets every badge, she will turn into the Mighty B, a superhero, and takes her dog Happy and her little brother Ben on her quest to become the Mighty B.

Main

  • Bessie Higgenbottom - The title character of the series, Bessie is a 9 3/4 year old Honeybee scout. She is very devoted to her troop and tries her hardest to earn every Honeybee badge, believing that she will become The Mighty B if she collects them all. In fact, she constantly wears her uniform, beats her sales record every year while selling taffy, and owns far more badges than any other scout. Bessie is a very confident, caring, organized, but hyperactive and talkative girl. According to a promotional advertisment, she said that she is lactose intolerant. *Happy Walter Higgenbottom- At first, a nameless dog with a half-torn ear enjoying existence at the Fisherman's Wharf, that is, until Bessie Higgenbottom found him and took him home. Happy could run away from the Higgenbottoms, but he begrudgingly grew to love his new family (except for Ben). Happy and Ben might fight over Bessie's affection, but Bessie loves Happy very much. Apparently, Bessie can comprehend Happy's barks and growls.
  • Benjamin Higgenbottom - Bessie's 7 year old brother, also nicknamed Ben, who is afraid most of the time. He is constantly trying to be braver, in hopes of being Bessie's sidekick when she becomes The Mighty B. Ben thinks by always being there for his sister he will become her sidekick instead of Happy. He enjoys boxing.
  • Hilary Higgenbottom - She owns and operates a coffee shop called Hilary's Cafe in San Francisco. She is the mother of Bessie and Benjamin Higgenbottom. She is as just bowled over by Bessie as everyone else is, and usually goes along with her precisely calculated plans out of sheer exhaustion. Although in the episode "Artificial Unintelligence" she shows high intellect by taking apart Bessie's atom smasher.
  • Finger - An imaginary friend of Bessie's which is her left-hand index finger with a face drawn onto it. Whenever Bessie needs some worldly advice, she seeks Finger's perspective of the matter. Bessie often recycles Finger's imaginary question for others to understand what he is saying. First thing every morning, she draws a smiley face on Finger, and every night before bed, she washes off Finger's "awake" face to put on his "asleep" face. Finger may seem like a figment of Bessie's imagination, but sometimes, it seems as if he has a mind of his own. Finger's French cousin, Fingare`, is evil.

  • Rocky Rhodes - He is an older skateboarder who works part-time as a waiter at Hilary's Café. In "We Got the Bee" it shows Portia likes him. Rocky is a budding teen heartthrob: He's nice, he's cool, and he's in a rock band. Rocky plays bass for the Integritones, a teen garage band that can totally make it, if they only could find a drummer that who would stick around for more than a week. Bessie was the drummer once, but when Penny, who was apart of Portia's band 'The Pretty Pretty Princesses' fainted, Bessie quit the band in order to help Portia's band. Kenan Thompson, Poehler's SNL co-star, lends his voice as Rocky.
  • Mary Francis Gibbons - She is the Honeybee troop leader and Portia's mom, who, apparently, enjoys humiliating Bessie as much as Portia does. An advanced social climber, she is banking everything on her mall-pretty daughter. She became a Troop Leader because she plans one day to run for PTA President and she wanted to show how good she was with children. She forced Portia to join the Honeybees and considers the troop a mother-daughter bonding activity. Mary also is a certified Patty Faye Cosmetics representative and jumps at any time to push Patty Fay. She does seem to care about her troop in some episodes.
  • Penny - Penny is 10, and she is Bessie's clumsy, overweight, dim-witted best friend. However, she shows loyalty to Portia and Gwen and is occasionally torn between them and Bessie. She has a big heart and is always willing to help her friends, whether it be Bessie or Portia.
  • Portia Gibbons - Portia is 11, and she demands to be waited on and treated like a celebrity. Like a stereotypical dumb blond, she is interested in makeup, clothes, Rocky (seen on "We Got the Bee"). She always has Penny (when she is not with Bessie) and right-hand man Gwen at her side. Portia is very lazy and would rather have others do things for her. For an unknown reason, Portia constantly belittles and attempts to humiliate Bessie, dragging Gwen and Penny into the schemes as well. She also has a nasal cavity and often calls Bessie such names like "Messy Stinkinbottom".
  • Gwen - Gwen is mainly seen at Portia's side, working as a lieutenant. Her interests include urban culture, music, and fashion. Apparently, she has a head for business and is very clever. She may seem harsh at first, but she is actually a very nice girl who is oppressed by Portia's orders. She has four younger brothers.

Minor

  • Anton St. Germain - First introduced as the Dog Show judge, but has also been shown as the science fair judge and the head of city countcil. He is a family feud of the Waxing Gibbons' monkey and is adored by Mary Frances. Whenever Mary Frances Gibbons needs someone "impartial", she calls for Anton, to bring down Bessie or to endorse her daughter, Portia. He is quite wealthy and owns a doll museum.
  • Mr. Wu - He is the owner of a popular Chinese restaurant called Mr. Wu's Restaurant, a neighborhood favorite, located in Chinatown. He is loved by the Higgenbottom family, especially Bessie. He very sweetly humors Bessie in all of her crazy schemes and the Mighty B imagining, often getting pulled in for moral support.
  • The Hippie - He is a nameless hippie who roams around town without a care in the world. When he's not painting murals or riding his unicycle, he operates a magic shop. At times when no other adult will understand Bessie and her friends, the Hippie will, and usually can help in some way. He and Penny seem to be on the same wavelength.
  • Millie - Millie is the only Honeybee scout with a prominent part in several episodes. She has a slow way of talking, and loves shiny or reflective objects, such as tinsel or confetti. Millie tends to be indifferent or passive about recent happenings and sometimes states the obvious.

3 May 3, 2008 Artificial Unintelligence Bessie builds a robot in an attempt to win the Mad Scientist badge, but Portia takes control of the robot to humiliate Bessie.
We Got the Bee Bessie learns to play drums hoping to join Portia's Honeybee band, but her skill lands her a better gig with Rocky's rock band.
4 May 10, 2008 Lil Orphan Happy It's Mother's day and Bessie learns that Happy doesn't know where his mom his. Bessie goes around town looking for her, but once she is found, she starts to teach Happy to break Bessie's rules.
Body Rockers Bessie and The Mighty Bee get lost at a science exhibit and think they have been shrunk and teleported into a human body.
5 May 17, 2008 Bat Mitsvah Crashers Bessie and Penny start crashing Bat Mitzvahs after attending Penny's neighbor Zanni's Bat Mitzvah and set their sights on the ultimate Bat Mitzvah being held by Portia's cousin, Chelsea (Jessica Chaffin).
Super Secret Weakness Bessie discovers the Mighty Bee's secret weakness is zucchini, and tries to rid her hometown of the foul vegetable. But how will camera-loving Portia react to Bessie's appearance on television?
6 May 31, 2008 An I See Bee Bessie is told by The Mighty Bee that she can see the future. Bessie predicts that Penny will have the ultimate birthday party, but Joey. Now Bessie must create the utimate party for Penny as Joey.
Woodward and Beesting Bessie tries to learn Portia's secret by becoming a reporter for the Hive Herald, but comes to the ridiculous conclusion that she is an human.
7 June 7, 2008 Dopplefinger Bessie starts listening to Fingare, Finger's evil cousin from France, while Finger recovers from an injury. However, Fingare seems to be a bad influence on Bessie...
Little Womyn Bessie's mom becomes the troop leader and stops giving out badges because of the Honeybee structure and lack of self-expression.
8a June 23, 2008 The Apprentice Mary Frances takes Bessie as her apprentice to boost her cosmetics sales, but Bessie's zeal will give her more than she anticipated...
8b June 24, 2008 Beenadict Arnold Bessie puts Happy on a strict health food regimen and workout schedule. Happy is not excited about this, and leaves Bessie for Portia.
9a June 25, 2008 Boston Beean Sissy Sullivan, a Honeybee from Boston, comes to stay with Bessie. The two girls are very similar in behavior, but Sissy seems to outdo Bessie in everything...
9b June 26, 2008 Penny Hearts Joey Penny develops a special connection wth Joey the animatronic kangaroo, who is the entertainer for a restaurant, Jumpin' Joey's.
10a June 27, 2008 Ten Little Honeybees Portia's locket disappears during her birthday party, and Detective Bessie is on the case.
