The Energy Survey of North America was done by the Technical Alliance. This survey was composed of data from government and private sources. The data focused on physical economic indicators such as raw resource extraction, manufacturing stats, and energy usage.

When this survey was completed, Technocracy Incorporated was started to inform the public of the findings of the survey in order to create a Technate in North America, as the basis of a new type of society using on energy accounting[1]. The conclusions of the survey are presented in the Technocracy Study Course first published in 1934, which contains a synopsis of the energy survey and also basic information about science and the proposal for an alternative Non-monetary economics culture, which the group termed a scientific social design.
