American films by decade navtemplates
Following on from the discussion over at WP:FILM, I've decide to list these at TfD. The discussion is at Wikipedia:Templates for deletion/Log/2008 August 14. Regards. PC78 (talk) 09:54, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Hey firend, please help!
I'll definitely have a look, but please look what ComingPresident (talk · contribs) is doing on the Bollywood article. I'm shocked. He removes info, replaces the first paragraph with some nonsense sourced to a stupid source which does not even back up the claim. Please help!!! Shahid • Talk2me 18:25, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
- Blof please do something, I can't get what's the matter here. Could you please turn to some admin? I have no time now. Shahid • Talk2me 19:05, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

So, how come an article gets FACed within ten days of creation????????? Shahid • Talk2me 20:01, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
- Not a job, some other issues. I'm upset that everything is so bad here. The SRK article is also being filled with unsourced fangush and my edits are being reverted. One editor keeps adding non-notable controversies, I try to explain him why they are not good. The actor's been part of so many controversies, and selecting only three is POV. His new section looks like a fansite, in addition to being poorly sourced (only one controversy is sourced, the one which belongs to the Om Shanti Om article. Read that, you will understand. You see I can't be here. Even when I come, my time is limited and broken. Shahid • Talk2me 20:12, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Check the content of my source and check his action. He tries to associate Bollywood as Hindi-film industry only. This is a wrong implication. --ComingPresident (talk) 18:32, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
You are right, that today Bollywood is refered only to Hindi film industry today. But unfortunately some Westerners still use Bollywood as whole Indian film industry. The businessweek article author is one of them, although he used an asterisk to clear, that he means the whole Indian industry. Shshshshsh uses the dumbness of the businessweek author to implicate, that Bollywood (the hindi industry only!!) is the largest in the world. This is vandalism. --ComingPresident (talk) 18:49, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Hey there :)
Haven't forgotten about you, I promise. Been a bit busy IRL but slowly finding more time for museums and other on wiki stuff. Saw your Bollywood message, but I had no idea what it was about really. Know less than nothing about the industry. How's all by you? TravellingCari 22:00, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
- :-) Haven't had much on wiki time at all, work and moving sucked all time. I'm trying to clean out the disaster that is List of museums and cultural institutions in New York City and in the process did National Parks of New York Harbor. Did Adsit Log Cabin but didn't get far with it. Played a bit in the backlog to clear the brain. Also been trying to save some NHRP stubs that someone jumped to AfD. How abiout you? A possible solution for American films by decade templates
Dear Blofeld of SPECTRE...I see that you want to keep the American films by decade templates. I came up with a compromise solution, a template that merged all of them into one. If you like it, just let everyone know on the TfD. LA @ 22:41, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
- I would suggest that you rename Template:American films to CinemaoftheUnitedStates, just like the Italian and French with the various other lists added to the top. I would support it and get the one I made deleted. LA (If you reply here, please leave me a {{Talkback}} message on my talk page.) @ 18:49, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
Insight Requested
- Blofeld! I was wondering if I might get your insights on the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dates in Star Wars discussion. I know and recognize you have extensive experience with AfD-possible articles (such as the one I noted and got smacked down on!), and thought that your insights and thoughts (not to mention just 'cause you're way smarter than me in these matters!) might be very beneficial.

fleshed it a bit for ya :) Not that I know diddly squat about planes :) TGIF!
- OH I know you fill out a lot, hard to do so effectively when someone tags it for A7 as soon as you've hit save. Decided to take that one off your plate. Can you generate a list of museum stubs you've done? Am happy to post to WP:MUSEUMS for people to work on. Let me know. I'll get to your Spanish stubs soon. :) TravellingCari 14:15, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
- Sierra Leone Road does indeed look a little air brushed. I forgot about our museums list, I'll go play there too. Rainy half days are a wonderful thing. Will see what I can do. Was surprised to find a lot of info about the above's collection in books. Seems to be a fairly well known collection for its out of the way location. TravellingCari 14:23, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
- Very few web mentions in English, books had some about its collection. May also be known under another name but I don't read Thai so can't use those to help expand.
- Agree, seeing what they have is good esp since it's in a language I can read :) Finding Thai results doesn't help me much :) TravellingCari 15:29, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

Quick editing.
The creation is a no brainer in excel with the concatenate function - just have the names, geo coords, admin district, alt names, and cat as variables. I could have also done the stub as a var, but alas, we've discussed that. <sigh> Carlossuarez46 (talk) 19:01, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
Proposed deletion of Basket Knitter Museum of the Romas

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Basket Knitter Museum of the Romas, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. - On vacations I have seen lots of "museums" or art galaries which were just a room in a shop devoted to selling postcards, tee shirts, and other such, with out much of any note in them. I expect that some such enterprises find their way onto lists created by government ministries or tourism boards. Grand titles are fairly cheap. On the other hand, a funny sounding title does not prove non-notability. Edison (talk) 19:30, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

TfD
I'm happy to let this matter drop between us, as I have no desire to harbour a grudge against you. However, the initial provocation was from you, not me, and I'm somewhat dissapointed that you (apparently) don't see that. Address the concerns that are raised, but don't attack the person who raises them; assume good faith. Try and remember that others are working to the same end as you, to raise standards across the project, but that not everyone will share your ideas of how to move forward. PC78 (talk) 19:37, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
- WP:EFFORT is not a sound argument; I'm sure most of what gets deleted on Wikipedia was the product of much time and effort, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be deleted. Making such discussions personal, as you did at WT:FILM and then again at TfD, is not condusive to collaboration, and in both cases resulted in conflict.
- Moving on, I will say (and believe I have done so already at the TfD discussion) that I do at least find your combined template to be an improvement on the current situation. If I get chance later tonight, I shall give the issue some more thought. PC78 (talk) 20:14, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
- (sigh) For the last time, it was your uncalled for "If PC78 you are not willing to replace the templates..." comment that sparked this, so stop trying to turn this onto me. If you do not wish to face criticism, perhaps you should make a greater effort not to invite it? PC78 (talk) 20:36, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
- (just read your last comment) Like I said above, I'm happy to let this matter drop. I have no desire to move that discussion to my talk page; you can have it if you want, or I'm happy for you to simply delete it, but that goes for your initial comment towards me as well. Hi, I had seen at Mariano's page you had asked him to help in the film article's translation. As Mariano is scarce these days I took it upon myself to go ahead with it (hope you don't mind). - I have seen your work on the subject. I may in the future, but my main area of editing work is translation and creation of Argentine War of Independence and Argentine 19th-Century history articles which are sadly lacking of are just stubs. I have a long ToDo list of articles and I took this film as a diversion from my usual subject. I would suggest you place a request at the Wikipedia:Argentina-related regional notice board. Not that many people there will jump to help but I'll see it and may take on another project like this in the future. I would also ask as a favor to please give the Guerra Gaucha article a once-over and correct my poor grammar. Also, (this is the extortion part), I'd love a comment/criticism on my work on Portal:Argentina as I'm basically the sole active maintainer and would love to get it to Featured Portal status. Even though I put a request in several places for almost two months, I got not one measly comment or criticism. Thanks. -- Alexf42 22:00, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

African economy templates
I'll be happy to help, and will add that to my to-do list. Mr. IP 《Defender of Open Editing》 00:54, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
- One question: why is the first group of links in each template called "communications"? Mr. IP 《Defender of Open Editing》 01:08, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
- And, as a second question, I just ran through a list of articles relating to Cameroon, largely redlinks, and added relevant ones to the template (mining, wheat, etc.), some of which I may start as stubs within the next couple of days. So, the question would be: is something like "Prostitution in Cameroon" relevant? (I added it for the time being, as it seems that sex tourism is a part of their economy.) What about something like Rural exodus in Cameroon? Mr. IP 《Defender of Open Editing》 01:18, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
Sounds good. I'll help expand these temps and add to them. Is "Crime in..." relevant? --I'm an Editorofthewiki[citation needed] 19:47, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

A couple of things about these templates:
- Can you please place them at the foot of articles, along with the other nav templates?
- Can you also make them autocollapse by default, along with the other nav templates?
- Can you not add them to articles which already have them? :)
Thanks! PC78 (talk) 12:43, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

Templates of Uganda
Hi, I watch a lot of African pages, you definitely deserve some kind of Barnstar for your excellent efforts. In this case there exist the new Template:Economy of Uganda and the extant Template:Uganda topics which includes an Economy and Infrastructure section. In case you want to save some time and work, vis a vis merging the templates, this note is For Your Information. Cheers. --Mr Accountable (talk) 15:57, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, that makes sense, and I don't really have much of an editorial viewpoint on the development of these article trees or the eventual disposition of various sets of templates, anyway. I like the Pineapples in Costa Rica approach very much, I started up Titanium in Africa and Aluminium in Africa last year, and just over the past few days an article Cement in Africa has started. --Mr Accountable (talk) 18:05, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

I might when I have the energy for it and feel like doing it. It was more important for the articles to comply with wp:nfcc. Besides, I don't think to have an image is that important, people look at the article for the list, an image is not really necessary there. Garion96 (talk) 17:02, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

- Know what you mean re: travel v. money. While living in Japan I had a lot saved (it's not as expensive as everyone says) and had a lot of travel time, I miss that. Last summer while studying in Prague I had a lot of time on the weekends but not a lot of money so it was shoe-string sightseeing. I'm still paying off the round-Australia trip, but it was worth every .02, usually on the logic that spending the money to do something there i.e. a scenic flight] over the Bungle Bungles ($500 at the time) was far cheaper than flying back to NY and returning to do it. Now I have a more comfortable salary, but limited time. Trying to plan where to go from 4-9 December though. TravellingCari 15:54, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

Yes I do know that Sandy acts as Raul's proxy for promoting FACs. The problem with 1964 Gabon was that I didn't understand Sandy's problem with the article because s/he had set their preferences differently than mine. Now, Tony has been leading a campaign to remove date links. Nishkid and I (silently) had a concensus to keep the date links, and s/he helped fix Sandy's problem. I simply wish Tony would be more specific in his opposition rather than giving a few examples of bad prose. --I'm an Editorofthewiki[citation needed] 14:24, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

I hope to take this to FAC once this review is over. Vanaja is on the backburner for now as I'm in the process of getting hold of the DVD that has addl. director's commentary to help me know more about the filmmaking aspects. Neat! Now it appears to me that it has a very good inclination towards your Wild Wild West interests, doesn't it? ;) Mspraveen (talk) 16:20, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
True, the Filipino movie's story seems like a good one. Sadly like many other articles, this one has been under-developed too. Hmm..I hope we have more editors to add on to the pedia. Btw, how's the white cat doing today? And, you didn't react to my sockpuppet labelling? Mspraveen (talk) 16:31, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, the time wasting counter would just be perfect to let the bureaucrats know that most of their actions are just weaning away the creativity from many. Well I'm sure they'll argue that this is needed for the "smooth" running of the pedia. Anyways, chuck it..Hey, your femme bot is smashing! ;) Mspraveen (talk) 16:43, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
Hi!
Hi blofeld, I'm doing well these days. Anxious to finish work and get back to school though. I have been doing some Cambodia-related work, though mainly under an alternate account. (For a while I was actually editing as User:Mangostar. It started out when I was on wikibreak, then I decided I enjoyed hiding out and being relatively anonymous... I'm pretty sure we were chatting a bit then as well! I have now consolidated my identities pretty much.). Lately I've been doing a bunch of random stuff--some image tagging, working on fashion articles (Bryanboy, Tom Ford), a lot of importing from various public domain sources. Just made the History of Belize series, as well as History of Mauritania, History of Qatar, History of Uzbekistan, etc. The LOC content generally is far better than what we have here already. What else is new? I restored a great photo that is up at Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Haile Selassie. (Helping combat systemic bias with an African leader.) I wish the geobot project would come online, it looked like it would be fun to work on. What have you been up to? I've been lurking on your talk page less than usual these days, so I'm not really sure! Calliopejen1 (talk) 17:44, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Macedonian movies
Hi! Thanks for thinking of me, but the only Macedonian movie I ever saw was Goodbye, 20th Century! I know absolutely nothing about the subject beyond that one film. Ecoleetage (talk) 18:54, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi there. I am tempted to give up on places based upon the actions of a difficult editor. He complains that the GeoNet Name Server is not a reliable source because humans who work for the agency can make errors. The absurdity of the proposition is that no source is error-proof: books, magazines, newspapers, the web, etc. (see Dewey Defeats Truman and Hitler Diaries and all the errors in reporting on the Anthrax case and the Olympics bombing case, etc.... Well, that editor has decided to nominate one of the places I created - Əngəlan (which seems the preferable name to "Angelan" or "Angalan" per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (geographic names) - for deletion based on his theory. The debate is on-going, but until I have some assurance that the effort will not be wasted, I may have to suspend work on these. In a couple of weeks, these would look like the Armenian ones of which I am somewhat proud. Pity, because no editor will be able to put together anything on the missing geographic articles unless they are mentioned in something not prone to error by humans (the Bible, perhaps?). Any thoughts? Carlossuarez46 (talk) 23:49, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
Re: Your "Word of advice" message: I have in fact done so, to a degree. I was working on material within the State of Mexico when I noticed that there were many incorrect INEGI codes. I corrected all of them in this particular state, figuring that it must have been an isolated anomaly. Just for the heck of it, I decided to check on some other states and discovered that it was not an isolated phenomenon. However, I was not about to go changing everything in every other state (originally having no interest in such a matter). I just thought that I would point it out though, since other people with more interest in such subjects might not be aware of the problem. Backspace (talk) 04:18, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the nice words. :) - Darwinek (talk) 14:12, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
- Well, as you can saw, Usain was phenomenal again. :) Seems that old Johnsy lost his record. :) - Darwinek (talk) 14:50, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
- I think he's got great physical attributes. Not a big jock with giant muscles, but a decently muscled guy with long legs. Oh, and that Jamaican accent. :) - Darwinek (talk) 15:01, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
African protected areas
Great! I'll try to modify {{AfricaProject}} so that it categorises articles in the scope of this work group. –Black Falcon (Talk) 14:47, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
- I could expect that for a small country like Djibouti, but 7 years for Kenya of all places, home of the Masai Mara and Nairobi National Park, is hard to believe.
- I'll set up the category structure for assessments, using the "African military history task force" as a model; it should be easy enough to modify {{AfricaProject}} to fit our needs. What do you suggest as an appropriate image for the project banner? –Black Falcon (Talk) 15:07, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
- Never mind. I just now noticed the giraffe at the top of the project page and on the userbox. :) I'll use that, unless you have another image in mind. –Black Falcon (Talk) 15:12, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
- I do. It has a clear affiliation with protection and Africa (unlike the elephant, for instance, which is found outside of Africa) and it's a unique logo (i.e. no other project uses it) as far as I know. –Black Falcon (Talk) 15:26, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
- No, only Sapo National Park. The others were created and/or expanded by Blathnaid and Editorofthewiki. –Black Falcon (Talk) 15:34, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
- I'll take care of the tagging using the templates that you've created and the subcategories of Category:Protected areas by country. I'm currently finishing a draft of a new article, and I'll start tagging just as soon as I'm done with that. –Black Falcon (Talk) 17:29, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
- Indeed it is. I'm eager to know how many articles fall under its scope, so I'll start tagging in about 45-60 minutes. –Black Falcon (Talk) 17:34, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
- Great job, by the way, on the navigation templates. –Black Falcon (Talk) 17:35, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
- It seems that I will have to postpone the tagging. I keep getting a "database locked" message and it is taking me an average of 7-10 tries to save a single page. –Black Falcon (Talk) 19:28, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
images on Olympic event templates
I realize your edits are good faith, but adding a photo to those navigation templates looks absolutely terrible. I see that other editors are reverting your changes too, so it's not just me. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 16:32, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
Gambia
Hello Blofeld of SPECTRE,
Unfortunately, my English is not so good that I work in the English Wikipedia. Therefore, I work primarily on the German side.
There it is not desirable, if only in the article, the city has x residents - this is not encyclopaedic. We should really be a little more effort. Many settlements that you had created today are also uninteresting, it would be better only places >5000 residents to describe. Pity is that when you write Barajally not had described the special (Jawara's Birthplace).
Perhaps review what I said in the German Wikipedia wrote. Just Yesterday I made a fairly inconspicuous (Devil Point) into a nice small article. Even the History of Gambia is much larger than the English version.
