User talk:Morven/archive1
Hello there Morven, It's nice to see someone else who's interested in railways. I've created/contributed to quite a lot of railway related articles myself. I like the look of what you've done so far. You might like to take a look at the List of railway companies article, and see if you can fill in any gaps.
BTW I wrote an article on Vacuum brakes some time ago, but I'm not sure I got the technical details right, seem as you're technically minded you might like to take a look at it. Cheers! G-Man 21:32, 16 Sep 2003 (UTC)
Er.. you might be right about the CWR, although I'm sure I've heard CWT used, G-Man 23:33, 18 Sep 2003 (UTC)
Hello, Morven. I think that the picture is from Twentieth Century Fox. I am reasonably sure, I will dig about some more and get back to you.

Morven!!! I just found out, it was an NBC series!!! That still doesn't however rule out the producers being 20th Century Fox.

And was deleted there, too. --Morven 20:22, 9 Oct 2003 (UTC)
- Do you know what was the reason and who did it? I would very much like to know the explanation.
Paranoid 21:48, 9 Oct 2003 (UTC)
Well, on the Deletion policy page there is no reason that can be applied to the page. As haze said on E2, there is nothing illegal about the article. And I don't think deleting it only because some admins don't like it is a good idea, especially on Wikipedia. And of course, there is no such thing as limited free speech. If only the speech which the censors like is allowed, it can no longer be free. BTW, could you just state (in written form), why do you personally support its deletion.
Hello there, several things: I was wondering if you were going to do any more work to the signaling article?.
- Yes, when I feel inspired. It's currently a bit of a mess and I was wondering about organisation.
Also I agree that there should be seperate articles for the different types of locomotive, I think that steam locomotives are certainly a big topic in there own right and deserve their own article. I might start splitting the locomotive artice soon.
And also some anon IP has claimed on the Talk:Rail transport page that the energy efficiency figures for rail travel are wrong which sounds a bit dubious to me, You probably know more about it than me G-Man 22:53, 17 Oct 2003 (UTC)~
- I'll check it out.
Thanks for the nice remark on my Cadillac picture, I don't think I've ever seen a more gorgeous car! I took it at a rally of old cars that started from Slimbridge Wildfowl Centre down by the River Severn (just north of Bristol, England, where I live).
Thanks again.....

Two things:
I was thinking, about the signaling article. Perhaps one solution to the current mess would be to weave the contents of the present article into a wider article about how railways are run and organised, the present tag of railway signaling is a bit limiting.
Changing the subject: Perhaps it would be a good idea to make a page called something like List of British and American railway/railroad terminology, which would list the British and American words for rail related things. As much of the English speaking world uses either one or the other. G-Man 22:34, 18 Oct 2003 (UTC)
My apology for clobbering Climax L'm've in the first place, and esp'ly for having been so careless as to miss the fact i did so. I appreciate your quick repair. --Jerzy 07:42, 2003 Nov 2 (UTC)
What happened with your "21:35, 6 Nov 2003" edit of Concorde? You apepar to have reverted my previous changes ,unnanounced. Andy Mabbett 00:24, 11 Nov 2003 (UTC)
Could you review Wikipedia:Problem_users#User:62.47.149.63 and tell me if this is still a problem? Thanks. Martin 19:23, 13 Nov 2003 (UTC)
Thanks for Concorde support
Many thanks for your support on the Concorde undercarriage caption vote. Because I took the pic and wrote the initial caption, I felt particularly annoyed by the addition that Pigsonthewing made. Lets hope this is the end! Thanks again from Adrian.

Several days ago you joined the discussion of whether Brunswick or Braunschweig should be the home of the article on the German city. After a brief discussion, the question was moved from the Votes for deletion page to Talk:Brunswick. Quite a bit of fact-finding has occurred since then, but the decision appears to have reached an impasse. Could I ask you to take a few minutes to review the facts presented on Talk:Brunswick and share your current thoughts? Thanks. Rossami 22:29, 8 Dec 2003 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing the UP article. Greenmountainboy
Just wondering, have you had any ideas about what to do about the railway signaling article yet?. I have not worked on any railway related articles for a while. But if you have no ideas, I might try to clear up the mess at some point (not entirely sure how though) G-Man 00:44, 22 Dec 2003 (UTC)
On What Constitutes an LA Suburb
On Los Angeles, you said: "Costa Mesa is NOT a Los Angeles suburb; it's in Orange County, not even in LA county let alone city"
I personally live in Orange County and when I tell outsiders (i.e. non californians) about where I live, I find the most effective way of saying so is that I live in a suburb of Los Angeles. Just as I'd say places in Long Island are suburbs of New York City, I'd say that places like Irvine, Newport Beach, and even Costa Mesa are suburbs of Los Angeles. I would be shocked if these cities aren't counted in the Metropolitan population figure for LA.
My two cents. Goodralph 10:37, 27 Dec 2003 (UTC)
- For what its worth, I certainly live in a suburb of Leicester, even though i am outside the boundaries that Leicester City Council administer. The development is quite uninterrupted. Morwen 10:42, Dec 27, 2003 (UTC)
- I'm thinking of a way to state that those cities are not within the city nor county of Los Angeles but ARE within the metropolitan area. Check back in a bit and I'll have some better wording for you, I hope.
- Note that in my experience the average Orange County resident will NOT consider themselves to live in Los Angeles and in fact many will be rather unhappy if someone says they do. --Morven 10:45, 27 Dec 2003 (UTC)
Joy Division
- Hi - yes, I wanted to make it a disambig for Joy division - take a look and tell me if you still hate it ;) The Fellowship of the Troll 23:12, 9 Jan 2004 (UTC)
- Thanks - the Internet trolling article is an article about internet trolls, not wikipedia, I think it needs to tbe in the article namespace. Thanks, The Fellowship of the Troll 23:17, 9 Jan 2004 (UTC)
Shall we move wikipedia too?The Fellowship of the Troll 23:19, 9 Jan 2004 (UTC)
On Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Peerage you seem to have voted yes on the second poll, but your edit summary said "Voted no on question 2". If you intended to vote no, you may want to correct this. --Wik 11:13, Jan 11, 2004 (UTC)
You merged Compression ignition engine into Diesel engine -- would you mind looking at Diesel cycle as well? That article duplicates quite a bit of information, contradicts Diesel engine in places, and doesn't make the two/four-stroke distinction you mention.
Sorry, I didn't check who'd deleted it. I just assumed you had. Either way, I think it's fine that it was deleted and rewritten. :) Angela. 01:07, Feb 1, 2004 (UTC)
Kylchap
Sorry for all the fuss.
I construed your passive-voice "deleted" as "by someone else", and when i looked at text assumed there was something that was obvious to the deleter, even tho not to me, to justify deletion. Delete & recreate by same person never occurred to me!
Not necessary that i understand why you deleted rather than just overwriting, but understanding the value of that might help me recall it in a future situation.
(I'm just glad to have asked Angela if she wanted to re-delete, before i also made a fool of myself also on VfD. [grin, blush]) --Jerzy 01:19, 2004 Feb 1 (UTC)
The two columns that occur in most of the entires are supposed to be for metric and imperial units. There are some planes that have both filled in. A good example is the Supermarine Spitfire. David Newton 15:54, 6 Feb 2004 (UTC)
Thanks man! I recently did (pretty much a stub) for the Bv238-which lead me to the flying boats page. In replying i noticed your Saunders-Roe Princess which i had never heard of (sounds like an amzing airplane). Anyway I was think of makeing a List of Flying Boats page in case you wanted to add anying. Greyengine5 18:46, 8 Feb 2004 (UTC)
