The College of Business Administration (CBA) of Cal Poly Pomona educates students in technical and managerial competence necessary for successful performance in business, industry, government and education. CBA is accredited by AACSB International.

Majors

The College of Business Administration (CBA) grants Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree with the following seven concentrations.

Accounting Computer Information Systems - Cal Poly Pomona's CIS program was established in 1969 and is the oldest business-oriented four-year degree program in the nation. Originally known as the Data Processing Department. This program was recognized as the "Best Four-Year CIS Degree Program" in 1988 by the Data Processing Management Association and currently has over 1,000 students. There is about a 50/50 mix of business (Accounting, Managerial Finance, International Business Management, and so on) and actual computing-related courses. The CIS department maintains an active dialog with the industry that hires its graduates, integrating feedback into the curriculum. It has two "weed-out" courses that students of every track must pass with a C or better. CIS 305 is a database class which requires that students learn DML, DCL, and DDL; normalize data all the way through first, second, and third normal forms; work with queries that can be up to a page long and involve subqueries; and other tasks that can be challenging to master within the allotted ten weeks. CIS 328, IS Careers, is widely thought to be the toughest in the curriculum. The time spent focusing on actual IS careers is perhaps 50% of the course content. The rest is informed directly by feedback from the industry, and requires hundreds of pages of assignments to be turned in. Grading on these assignments is to very high standards. Public speaking, social networking, good business English, and career building are some of the areas of emphasis. Tracks: Application Software Development Business Systems Analysis Internet Programming and Security Telecommunications e-Business - This concentration was launched in Fall 2001 to give students the technological, business and interpersonal skills needed to add value to established and start-up organizations engaged in e-business. Finance, Real Estate, and Law Areas of emphasis: General Finance Corporate Finance Financial Institutions Security Analysis Real Estate Brokerage and Development Real Estate Finance Multinational Finance Contract Management Business Law

International Business and Marketing Tracks: Promotion/Advertising/Direct Marketing International Sales Industrial Sales Distribution/Logistics Research Product and Brand Management Retail Management and Human Resources Tracks: General Management Human Resources Entrepreneurship Technology and Operations Management - The department focuses on the role of technology and scientific management methods. Heavy emphasis is placed on the study of computer applications for helping managers plan, analyze information, make decisions, and communicate. The department is currently ranked 3rd in the nation, behind Harvard University and Penn State.

Associations

• MISSA, short for Management Information Systems Student Association, is the largest student organization at Cal Poly Pomona. The club was started by Computer Information Systems students but it is open to all students. MISSA was formed to expose students to IT professionals, computing workshops, and social gatherings.

• The eBusiness Society The eBusiness Society is a student run organization representing the College of Business Administration eBusiness program and the students who study eBusiness technology and practicum. Re-charter in 2006 this student organization’s goals are to promote and support fellow eBusiness and Technology and Operations Management students with events, projects and programs that will enrich the experience of our student body. Focusing on developing a greater "hands on" experience through projects such as the upcoming RFID Lab @ Cal Poly Pomona they offer students activities and experiences that will make them ready for the "real world" after college.

• Delta Sigma Pi Delta Sigma Pi is a coed professional business fraternity with over 220,000 collegiate and alumni members around the country. Originally chartered on campus in 1969, it was absent during the 80s and most of the 90s until a group of students in 1999 gathered to begin the reactivation process. The organization was formally rechartered in 2001 and has since grown to be one of the larger organizations in the College. As a business fraternity, students eligible to pledge and utlimately join must be majoring in any major within the College of Business, Economics, Food Marketing and Agribusiness, Apparel Merchandising and Management, or Hotel and Restaurant Management. Events focus on developing professionalism, encouraging networking, fostering friendships, and serving the community.
