Vibrava (ビブラーバ), the Vibration Pokémon, resembles an antlion in build and possesses diamond-shaped wings, antennae and large, green eyes. Vibrava made its debut in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. Vibrava is one of few Pokémon that live in the desert regions of Hoenn. It is #329 in the National Pokédex.
Name origin
Derived from vibrate. However, Vibrava is actually the romanization of this Pokémon's Japanese name, Biburaaba.
Biology
Vibrava resembles a matured antlion, often mistakenly identified as a dragonfly. This confusion is not unjustified, as Vibrava can evolve into a dragon Pokémon, Flygon.
Vibrava vibrates its wings incredibly fast, generating ultrasonic waves. These waves are potent enough to cause prey to faint. It will then devour its prey after spraying its hide with acid to decompose the body for easier digestion. The ultrasonic waves it creates can also cause headaches in humans.
As its wings are not fully developed, it instead uses them for the purpose of stunning foes and prey. It can still fly short distances, however.
In the video games
Vibrava first appeared in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, and later made an appearance as one of the Shadow Pokémon in Pokémon Colosseum.
Statistically, Vibrava is not well-suited for battle. It is wise for players to evolve Vibrava into Flygon for the purposes of battling.
As a Ground- and Dragon-type Pokémon, Vibrava is offensively strong against Electric-, Fire-, Rock-, and Poison-types and defensively weak against Ice-types. Vibrava and its evolved form Flygon are the first and only Pokémon of the Dragon and Ground dual-types.
In the animé
In the card game
Vibrava has made three appearances as cards, all in the EX Dragon set. Each card is as a colorless type. Vibrava, like other Pokemon with Dragon traits, uses multiple energy types to fuel its attacks. In this case, it is grass and lightning, which is strange because it is a Ground/Dragon type in the video games.
