List of minor One Piece characters
The following is a list of minor characters in One Piece:
Ace (Portgas D.)
Portgas D. Ace (ポートガス・D・エース Pōtogasu D Ēsu) is Monkey D. Luffy's older brother.
Ace first appeared in the Alabastan city of Nanohana; he was seen sleeping in the spicebean restaurant. He left Fuschia Village three years before Luffy, and he is a loyal crewman and second in command of Whitebeard (Edward Newgate), his captain. Ace has eaten the Devil_Fruit Mera-Mera, a logia (or elemental) type fruit, giving him pyrokinetic abilities and his reputation as "Fire Fist Ace". He was in Alabasta to search for his former crewmember Blackbeard, who used to be in Whitebeard's Crew. Blackbeard killed his crew and fled and now Ace is looking for him to kill him for his crimes.
Ace left his hometown three years before Luffy, and was already very strong and skilled before eating his Devil Fruit. Luffy never managed to defeat him in a fight. He displays his power by destroying a handful of Baroque Works ships with ease. Though has a habit of falling asleep in at any moment, making people wonder if he dropped dead.
In the manga, Ace has a tattoo on his back of the Whitebeard symbol--a skull with a white mustache and a swastika behind it. For obvious reasons, this was changed to crossbones in the shape of a "T" in the anime. Ace has another tattoo on his left arm by the shoulder: it reads "ASCE" with the "S" (apparently a mistake on the part of the tattoo artist) crossed out.
Currently, Ace is one of two people who are the only pirates to ever escape arrest by the Navy captain Smoker. (The other escapee is Ace's younger brother, Luffy.) Ace and Smoker fought to a standstill in Alabasta since the pirate controls fire and the Naval Captain controls smoke, they practically cancel the other out. Ace is the only person in One Piece so far to fight evenly with Smoker. (Luffy was almost captured by Smoker in Roguetown and has since resorted to running away from the man instead of fighting.)
Alvida
Alvida is an obese woman who is in charge of the Alvida Pirates Crew. She sees herself as the most beautiful lady in all of the 4 Seas; if someone disagrees, she'll smash the offender with an Iron club. She imprisoned Koby to be her cabin boy after he boarded her ship by accident. She is defeated by Monkey D. Luffy in the beginning of the manga and anime, but she later comes back with the power of the Sube Sube(Slip Slip) Fruit, which makes her skinny, smooth and really beautiful. In Logue Town, she helps Buggy the Clown attempt to execute Luffy, but fails once more. She is currently with Buggy somewhere in the Grand Line on Skull Island.
She carries a bounty of 5 million Berries
In the Japanese Anime, she is voiced by Youko Matsuoka. In the english dub, she is voiced by Kathleen Delaney.
Aisa
Aisa is a small girl from the Skypiea arc. Since she was born, she can sense (via "mantra") whenever anyone dies or is severely wounded. Although initially wanting to kill the Straw Hat Pirates, she later befriends them (especially Nami and Luffy).
Amazon
The elderly gatekeeper of Skypiea.
Banchi
A giant turtle used by Miss All-Sunday a.k.a Nico Robin for transportation it was also used to transport the officer agents of the Baroque Works from Spider's cafe to the Rainbase. He can be seen with a cowboy hat on and a cigarette in its mouth.
Baskerville
Three-Headed Baskerville is the gigantic, three-headed Chief Justice on the island of Enies Lobby, in the service of the World Government and the Navy. Each of his three heads has its own name: On the left and controllng the left hand is Left Baskeville, on the right and controlling the right hand is Right Baskerville, and in the middle is Center Freeway. Each seems to have a distinct personality, and legal opinions to match: for example, Left Baskerville is in favor of punishing the Straw Hat Pirates because they are criminals, while Right Baskerville takes the opposite viewpoint and recommends letting them go. Center Freeway (as his name suggests) is something of a wild card, offering "compromises" that are more extreme than either of the other two heads' viewpoints. This leads to the other two heads yelling at him.
Eiichiro Oda's inspiration for the character Baskerville would appear to come from the Three-Headed Knight in the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, which shares a general resemblance in costume and argues with itself in much the same manner as Baskerville does. That, combined with the somewhat stereotypically British faces (particularly that of Right Baskerville), seems to make it clear that he is an homage of some kind to Monty Python. However, this cannot be taken as a certainty until Oda comments on the character in one of his "SBS" question-and-answer columns, or elsewhere.
Baskerville's name comes from the famous Sherlock Holmes novel, The Hounds of Baskerville, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Oda has paid even more homage to the novel by having Baskerville's elite subordinates direct packs of military canines.
Belle-Mère
Nami and Nojiko's adoptive mother, she is seen in a flashback during the Arlong arc. Belle-Mère raised the two girls after they found her near death after a fight between naval marines (of which Belle-Mère was one) and pirates that left their home island in ruins. While Belle-Mère had very little income, she gave everything to her girls and survived by eating the oranges she grew. When Arlong invaded the island and found her home, Belle-Mère tried to fend them off but was quickly subdued. When asked for the fee needed to stay alive, Belle-Mère gave it to her two girls as she would rather have died than not call herself a mother. (All of the money that Belle-Mère possessed could only pay for herself alone and she would have to hide the girls; she chose to pay the fee for Nami and Nojiko and acknowledge them as her daughters and give her life.) To that end, Arlong shot her right in front of the eyes of her two adopted daughters, but not before Belle-Mère's said her final words to the girls. Belle-Mère said, "I love you."
In the English version of the anime, she is sent to the dungeon for not paying her fee and supposely dies as the years went on. While the edit had to happen as the show was on a Saturday Morning timeslot, many fans were outraged with this change as it ruined the impact behind Nami's motives of becoming a thief for Arlong.
==Ben Beckman==
Ben Beckman is the first mate in Red-Haired Shanks' pirate crew. When first seen in the manga and anime, he wears his black hair in a ponytail, and is never seen without his rifle nearby or a cigarette in his mouth. Later on in the series, he has cut his hair which has turned gray. Also, there is a large X-shaped scar on his left temple that was not there before.
Ben tends to use his rifle more like a club than an actual gun.

He wears a suit of armor, and is quite fearless, risking his life (though he is outmatched) for the sake of his town. With the help of Luffy, Zolo and Nami, Boodle is able to defeat Buggy's crew and drive them out of the town.
In the anime, Mayor Boodle is voiced by Jōji Yanami. In the English, he's voiced by Michael Sinterniklaas.
Braham
Cabaji
Cabaji is the second mate in Buggy's crew as well as their primary swordman who combines it with acrobatics (mostly on a unicycle) to fight his enemies. He fights with Roronoa Zolo no sooner than after being introduced and plays dirty by kicking Zolo's wounds whenever he has the chance. But once Cabaji was knocked off his unicycle, he was easily defeated.
After Buggy's was defeated by Luffy, he fought with the 'other' first mate Mohji for the title for the next captain--both were knocked out by a sleepwalking Richie who gained the title (though lost it just as quick). After Buggy resurfaced, they tracked to Straw Hats to Lougetown (RougeTown in the english dub) where he helped ambush and try to kill Luffy. A dog from Orange Village who guards a pet shop, day and night, not moving as it belonged to his master who died. But still being loyal to his master, who was a friend of the mayor, Boodle. Chouchou kept guard over the pet shop.
When first meeting Monkey D. Luffy, Chouchou swallows the key to cage Luffy was in at the time. Then Mohji and Richie appear to search for Luffy, Roronoa Zolo, and Nami. When Richie spoted the pet shop he headed for it to get a quick snack. Chouchou fights against Richie buts get beaten and watches his masters pet shop burn to the ground. Luffy, out of his cage thank to Richie, sees how sad the dog was for the loss of his only treasure and goes and defeats Mohji and Richie as payback for Chouchou. After Wapol abandoned his kingdom after Blackbeard's invasion. Dalton took charge and kept the island from falling into disarry, soon gaining the trust of the people. Even after Wapol returned and once again subded him, the people and even the top 20 doctors continued to help out Dalton. And he in turn them, even almost going to extreme measures such as planning to blow up Wapol's castle. Luckily Luffy defeated Wapol and knocked him off the island. Afterwhich, the people of Drum elected Dalton as their new king and renamed the island, Sakura Kingdom (inspiried from the special chemical created by Hilruk, which turned the snow pink). Django
Django (ジャンゴ Jango) is the first mate of Captain Kuro. He uses disks that double as chakrams to hypnotize people to his advantage in battle. "Django" is the spelling used by the United States version of One Piece released in the U.S. Shonen Jump by Viz. Many fans familiar with the Japanese version prefer the spelling "Jango".
Django wears strange clothes, including a long coat covered in the disks he uses to fight and hypnotize, and red-lensed heart-shaped glasses. It can be assumed that his character was based on Michael Jackson, as when he travels he usually moonwalks, and he uses flashy gestures similar to Michael Jackson's dance moves. Other notable similarities can be put between his trench coat and his heart shaped sunglasses.
Django possesses the power of hypnosis, which he uses to put people to sleep and to make Captain Kuro's crew far more powerful and fierce. He is not, however, perfect with his hypnosis - when he puts people to sleep, he usually falls asleep as well. And when he hypnotizes the crew to make them stronger, he also accidentally hypnotizes Monkey D. Luffy - with unpleasant results.
Django is ordered by Kuro to kill Kaya, but before he can kill her, Usopp hits him with his exploding stars. Django is thought dead, but secretly survives. Through many adventures and lots of hypnosis, he ends up a Navy recruit, working alongside the disgraced Ironfist Fullbody, under the command of Hina (whom they both adore).
Django gained his powers after eating a mushroom that had grown on his chin while he was sleeping. He only ate the cap and the trunk of the mushroom still resides on his chin.
Dragon
Dragon is one of the most mysterious characters in One Piece to this date. He is mentionned once as a revolutionary, and makes an appearance to save Luffy from being decapitated by Buggy and being captured by Smoker. He is high on the World Government's wanted list, and looks incredibly powerful. The exact details of his abilities are unknown, but he seems to be able to control the weather, creating thunderstorms, rain spells and summoning winds that are strong enough to blow people away like puppets.
Five Old Stars
Franky
Franky was known as Cutty Flam in his early life. Tom, the legendary shipwright took him as another apprentice after he was thrown out by his parents. He usually wears shirt and swimpants only, and particularly skilled in constructing devices out of scraps. The name Franky was first said by Iceburg since the name Cutty Flam was too strange.
There was an CP5 leader name Spandam who tries to buy the Pluton blueprint from Tom. When Tom won't coorperate, He had one of his men to use the Battle Franky that Franky build to fire at the Jury ship; thus framing Franky, Tom and Iceburg. After they prepare to take Tom away, an enraged Franky attacked Spandam.
Franky got ran over by the Sea Train, while he tried to stop it, since Tom was being accused of a crime he did not do. His dying body drifts to a scrapped ship and he immediately replace most of his body parts with metal, and he practically became a cyborg.
Back in Water 7, he went to the Galley-La headquarters to meet Iceburg but was turned away, Iceburg still pays a visit to Franky's warehouse. He gave the blueprint to Franky and told him to leave Water 7 before the government catchs him. Franky refused to leave. Iceburg told Franky that even Tom would forgive him; Iceburg won't but was glad Franky is alive.
Later, he took in people who failed to become shipwrights, these people became known as the "Franky Family". Then he formed an dismantler/bounty hunting orgenation.
When the Straw-Hat Pirates arrived to Water 7, Usopp was responsible to carry the 200 million berri. The Franky Family tried to steal the berri but failed but after Usopp entered the shipyard, he wondered off alone and the Franky Family attacked Usopp by surprise and stole 200 of the 300 million berries that the Straw Hats received in exchange for their Skypiea gold thus mugging him and dragged him down the streets; the wounded Usopp goes after them to his hideout to get them back only to get beaten up again. Franky had taunted him and whacked him thus collapsing. Franky then left to spend the berries. After Luffy wiped out the Franky Family to avange his friend, he decide to change the ship because it was irrepairable; Usopp sees himself weak and quits the crew.
Usopp challenges Monkey D. Luffy to a duel to win the ship. Usopp loses the duel but gets to keep the ship anyway. The dishearted Luffy and his crew leaves Usopp alone with the empty ship. Later, when Franky finds his hideout and his family beaten up, he swears revenge.
Enraged he goes to find Luffy to challage him to a fight. because Iceburg was shot by Nico Robin, the Straw-Hat Pirates were to blame; the shipwights was after both the brooding Luffy and Franky so non of them won the fight. Luffy tried to reason with the angry mob but to no avail, Franky became angry at the shipwights for interrupting his fight, he performed the Coup de Vent that blows the ships up, giving Luffy andNami time to escape.
During the commotion, Franky heads to the bar where he met Blueno and asked for a cola. Upset by the perviouse event, Kokoro had a small chat with Franky, after the chat Franky angerly stumpled out of the bar, his family came to him and asked if he got Luffy. They also told Franky about Usopp alone on his ship which gave him an idea.
He tells his family to run around the streets screaming messages that Franky is holding Usopp prisoner and is beating him up for the Straw-Hat Pirates to hear. He wanted to use Usopp as an bait to lure Luffy into his warehouse and finish fighting him.
He went to Usopp and took him and his ship to his warehouse instend of beating him up, Franky developed a warm friendship with Usopp; he let's Usopp repair his ship. He also learned Usopp's situation with Luffy earlier; Franky was touched by this story and cried. After hearing Usopp's crazy plan to sail back home to the East Blue with his ship, Franky told him he saw something about the ship that will sink and told Usopp that it is irrepairable and tries to dismantle the Going Merry. Usopp, who is extremely attacted to the ship, tries to fight Franky only to be thrown into the water under the ship, to see the kneel badly damaged.
Usopp of course tries to repair the ship again; Franky told him to quit that because no matter how many times he does that the ship will sink anyway. Usopp, rudly told Franky to shut up but he confessed that he knew this all along and told Franky about a strange figure who repaired his ship to an original state back in Skypiea.
Franky understood him and told him about a ship spirit called the Klabauterman; a ship that repairs itself. Usopp realizes it was the Going Merry that repairs itself and that the Going Merry had talked to him.
After a brief discussion, there was the knock on the door. It was none other than CP9. Franky tries to encourge Usopp to go back to his friends again; Yet Usopp was so hard-headed, he got in the argument with him. Franky tries to reason with him but was cut of when he saw his "Square Sisters" getting knocked down by Califa.
He was shocked that Blueno, Califa, Lucchi and Kaku are government agents. He tries to fight but they were to storng for him. They demanded Franky to hand over the blueprints but he refused. Blueno then called the boss and puts phone snail revolver close to Franky; the boss was none other then Spandam who is now a CP9 leader sporting a mask with a torturous rage.
Spandam was suprised that Franky is alive but Franky is shocked that his old enemy was back in action after eight years. They bundled Usopp and Franky to the Sea Train.
Franky played a large role on the Puffing Tom, he helped Sanji and Sogeking(Usopp) detach cart 7 and 6, he also fought [[Nero(One Piece]|Nero]] and won. He also tried to have Sanji, Robin and Sogeking reunite with Luffy by taking the whole cart 3 wall but Blueno got Robin anyway. He then had a small talk with Robin, telling he it's not a sin to be born. He then faced Spandam in justice tower, after Spandam spoke rudly insulted Tom, he angerly attacked Spandam; biting on head olny to get knocked down by Kumadori.
Franky also learned the truth about Iceburg's siding with the government. Spandam told Franky that Iceburg orgenized the Galley-La and made a contract with the government; making it hard to get him. Franky was shocked by Iceburg's cleaver attempt to keep Spandam away. He was ordered to be taken to Impal Down. He is last seen in a cell telling Robin that he won't know if his family is going to save him.
In a chapter 377 colorspread, Franky was listed as the part of the Strawhat pirate along with other Strawhat pirate crews
Franky Family
Gaimon
Gaimon is a character that gets his body imprisoned in an empty treasure chest after he loses his grip while scaling a small cliff on the mysterious Island of Rare Animals (Gold Island in the english anime) trying to find some treasure with his pirate crew. The crew leaves Gaimon stranded on the island. The treasure chest becomes his body and cannot be removed, however, he can still use his hands, head and feet. It takes 20 years for another person to find him.
After Gaimon shrinks when he gets stuck in the chest, he can no longer scale the cliff. He has to protect his treasures somehow, so he would use his gun and his spooky voice to drive away intruders. Monkey D. Luffy and the whole crew passes the trial and they begin to become friends. However, when Luffy finally gets to the top of the cliff, Gaimon realized that the treasure chests were empty too and he had been protecting a nonexistent "treasure" for 20 years. Then, he considers the animals as his treasures, and vows to protect them.
Eiichiro Oda has stated that Gaimon is his favorite character to draw.
Gan Forr
The previous actual God of Skypiea, before being defeated by Eneru. Despite being ousted from his position, he still continuosly patrols the land helping out those in need (such as Chopper when he was attacked by Shura, and later Nami against Hotori and Kotori). After Luffy defeated Eneru, the people of Skypiea begged him take back his rightful postion, which he did.
Genbou
==Genzo==
The sheriff of Coco Village (Cocoyashi Village in the Japanese version), which is Nami's home. He has had close ties with Nami and Nojiko since they were kids and he knew their adoptive mother, Belle-Mère, quite well. He also kept the the town together after Arlong took over the island, making sure everyone was safe and able to pay Arlong's tax.
Genzo wears a pinwheel on his hat because he used to make Nami laugh when she was a baby (this pinwheel also inspired an attack for Luffy during their fight with Arlong). He played a role in rescuing Luffy after Arlong threw him into the ocean. All of Genzo's scars are from his first encounter with Arlong.
Genzo's pinwheel inspired Nami's new tattoo--a pinwheel to represent him with a tangerine to represent Belle-Mère.
Gin
Gin, known as Ghin in the English anime, is Don Krieg's right hand man. Gin is given a plate of food by Sanji for free when Gin is starving on the Baratie. When Don Krieg's forces come to take over the Baratie, Gin is ordered to kill Sanji. Gin, a person who had tortured and killed countless others with his weighted tonfas, could not bring himself himself to kill Sanji. For this, Gin is punished by Don Krieg, who orders him to drop his gas mask while Krieg releases the deadly poison MH5. Despite this brush with death, Gin survives, and carries away the defeated Don Krieg (along with the rest of the crew) in a small boat.
The Japanese word gin (銀), pronounced with a hard "g", literally means "silver", but an "h" was added to the spelling in the English dub. This was probably done because the name's visual similarity to the English word "gin", and the likelihood of it being mispronounced as such.
Gonbe
Chimney's pet rabbit that she always mistakes for a cat.
Goro
Toto's brother and Kohza's uncle in the Gedastu mini-story
Grandpa
Nothing is known about Luffy's grandfather. He only appeared in a 1997 ad for One Piece in Weekly Shonen Jump. Luffy's Grandfather was also featured in Eichiro Oda's pilot version of the chapter Romance Dawn; originally, Luffy's Grandfather, a Pirate Captain in his own right, gave Luffy his strawhat when Luffy began his own pirate adventures. Luffy's Grandfather was also responsible for providing Luffy with the Gum Gum Fruit, which Luffy consumed to gain his signature stretching power. This was re-written for the actual series, however, in which both the Gum-Gum fruit and straw hat belonged to Red-Haired Shanks, Luffy's idol and role-model. He apparently is in the main story, however, as Aokiji mentioned him during his first meeting with the Straw Hats, which makes Luffy nervous when his Grandpa was brought up. If this is the same Grandpa from the pilot or another version remains to be seen.
Hamburg
A member of Foxy the Silver Fox's pirate crew.
Hatchan (Hachi)
Hatchan (called "Hachi" by most characters) is a member of Arlong's Fish-Man pirate crew. Hatchan is not very bright but an excellent swordsman, using rokutōryū ("six sword style"). He fights with Zolo during the Arlong arc. Despite Zolo suffering a fever and severe blood loss from his unhealed wounds (which he got eariler fighting Mihawk), Hatchan is still defeated by him. Later in the manga (in a title page arc that was never animated), Hatchan goes on many adventures, which end up in him opening a floating takoyaki restaurant.
"Hachi" translates to 'eight' in Japanese, the same number of legs an octopus has. "Hatchan" adds the diminutive suffix "-chan" to "hachi," giving it the approximate meaning of "little eight".
Hattori
Hattori is Rob Lucci's pigeon. Lucci used Hattori as a ventriloquist doll during his undercover work for CP9 in the Galley-La Company.
Higuma the Bear
During the childhood of Monkey D. Luffy (covered in the first chapter of the manga and a flashback early on in the anime), Higuma was a mountain bandit, leader of a band of similar bandits. The band swept into the town where Luffy lived and demanded grog, only to find that the last of it had been purchased by Red-Haired Shanks and his crew. Higuma personally insulted Shanks before storming out of the town; while Shanks laughed it off, Luffy was furious that Higuma had disrespected his hero.
Shortly afterward, while Shanks's crew was out on a voyage, Higuma and his band returned to town. While drinking at the same pub where they'd caused trouble before, Higuma insulted Shanks behind his back - and in earshot of Luffy. Infuriated, Luffy attacked the bandit, only to be thrown down and beaten by the entire group of bandits. Undaunted, Luffy insulted Higuma, and the bandit tried to kill him.
He was interrupted by the return of Shanks and his crew. Seeing what the bandits were doing to Luffy, the pirates attacked and defeated them, driving most of them back into the mountains.
Higuma, though, had escaped with Luffy in tow. He set out to sea, reasoning that given his attitude towards pirates, no one would look for him on the water. He then kicked Luffy out to sea, knowing the boy couldn't swim due to the Devil Fruit curse.
Immediately afterward, however, a Sea King rose from the waters. Higuma, terrified, could do nothing as the creature destroyed his boat and devoured the bandit with one bite.
Before his death, Higuma bragged about having an 8,000,000-berry bounty on his head; he carried his own "Wanted" poster to prove it. This is the first mention of bounties in the manga.
Hiruluk
He was a quack doctor from Drum Island and Tony Tony Chopper's father figure. After Wapol declared any doctor not under his rule to be outlaws, only he and the witch doctor Kureha were the free doctors left. Though unlike Kureha, Hruluk ended up doing more damage than good to his patients by accident.
He finds Chopper one day while traveling home in a blizzad. At first Chopper tries to knock him away, but Hiruluk earns his trust by stripping naked in the cold. From then on, the two slowly formed a sort of father/son relationship, traveling (and in a way terrorizing) the island trying to cure patients. After one year had passed, Hiruluk reluctantly kicks Chopper out of his house after learing he was going to die from a terminal illness. Hiruluk didn't want his friend to worry about him. After Chopper learns the truth, he goes on a journey for the cure and finds it in a mushroom. (Hiruluk had always called the skull and crossbone pirate emblem a symbol of vitility and Chopper took this to heart, not realizing that the crossbone symbol in the medicine book he read meant the mushroom was poisonus.) Sadly, unknown to the reindeer, the mushroom turns out be posionous but Hirluk took it anyway knowing this because he is so impressed by Choppers pure and innocent will.
Afterward, Hiruluk hears news that Wapol's top 20 doctors were sick and rushed to the castle, only to find out it was a trap by Wapol to draw Hilruk out and kill him. Hilruk however, is thankful everything is alright and instead by kills himself by drinking an expolsive potion, but not before thanking Chopper for a wonderful life just as Chopper is about to reach the castle. It was this death that inspired Chopper to become a doctor.
Also, Hiruluk's main dream was to cure the people of island of their frozen hearts, which was made a reality years later. Kureha and the people of Drum would use Hilruk final invention, a special chemical, to turn the snow pink, giving it the illusion of sakura blossoms. (In his early days, Hiruluk was a thief who was diagnossed with a fatal illness. What he believed cured him was the serine vision of a grove of sakura trees.)
Holy
A huge, pale yellow dog that Ohm taught to box. Holy is very loyal to Ohm, and is a powerful fighter who, oddly enough, knows martial arts.
Hotori and Kotori
Triplet brothers of Satori, one of Skypiea's Priests. They attack the Merry Go while it is traveling toward Upper Yard and fight against Nami and Gan Forr, by whom they are both defeated.
Igaram
Captain of the royal guards, he is Chaka and Pell's boss. He and Princess Vivi infiltrated Baroque Works in order to learn the organization's true boss and objectives. Igaram fights with a saxophone that shoots bullets when played, and he also has small guns hidden in his hair that fire when he pulls on his neck tie.
Iceburg
Iceburg is the founder of the Galley-La Shipbuilding Corporation, and the mayor of the City of Water, Water Seven. He was also an apprentice to Tom, the legendary Fish-Man shipwright who built the Oro (Gold) Jackson, Gold Roger's ship, and the Sea Train, a ship that runs on floating tracks. He later employed shipwrights with talents both in carpentry and fighting, and therefore, able to eradicate any pirate threat which endangered his company or city. Later, he was pressed by government organization CP9 to hand over the blueprints for the ancient warship Pluton, which Tom had been keeping in secret.
The spelling "Iceburg" (with a "u" instead of a second "e") is how this character's named appears in the One Piece manga. The spelling "Iceberg" is still frequently seen among fans.
Isshi 20
The Isshi 20 are the 20 most skilled doctors of Drum Island ("ishi" means "doctor"), whom Wapol took for himself in order to make his subjects grovel at his feet for their services. While they were under Wapol's control, they secretly despised him as the rest of the people did, but gave in to the King in order to continue their research and refine their technique, which they hoped to one day use to help their compatriots. After Wapol was defeated, they were forgiven by the people of the island and rejoined them as part of the new Cherry Blossom Kingdom.
Jesus Burgess
A member of Blackbeard's pirate crew.
==Johnny and Yosaku==
Johnny and Yosaku are old friends and former bounty hunting partners of Roronoa Zolo. They first appear during the Baratie arc and stay in the story until the end of the Arlong arc, both times helping out the Straw Hats. They arrive on the scene after Usopp and Luffy unknowingly shoot at the tiny island they're on for target practice. The partners has to stop because Yosaku was suffering from scurvy, but Nami was able to diagnose and treat him.
Johnny and Yosaku are very close to each other and go way back. According to the anime, they met Zoro after he helped save them from a bounty hunt gone wrong. After that, they followed Zoro loyally until he left them under fine circumstances. Johnny tends to be slightly more honorable and Yosaku is more of a realist--but both are downright silly together.
The two have a habit of adding a "brother" or "sister" prefix to whoever they are talking to; this derives from the two addressing others with the "aniki" (male) or "aneki" (female) suffix in the Japanese version. For example, Zolo is "Brother Zolo" (Zoro-aniki), and Nami is "Sister Nami" (Nami-aneki).
The kanji on Johnny's left cheek translates to 'sea'. He supposedly wears it because his hero--a bounty hunter that saved his childhood home from bandits--had the same kanji on his outfit.
Kaku
Kaku is one of the five foremen for the Gallery-la Company. It was Kaku that inspected the Merry Go and informed the Strawhats that it was irrepairable. Due to his long nose and long eyelashes, he is at first mistaken for Usopp. His unique fighting style as a shipwright combined his amazing fleetfootedness and his ability to throw chisels with pinpoint accuracy. Before revealing himself as an agent of CP9, he spoke with the voice patterns of an old man.
Kalifa
Kalifa is a beautiful woman who was the secretary for Iceburg at the Galley-La company. It is later revealed that she is actually an agent of CP9. She shows quick footwork similar to Sanji's, but after she returns to being an agent of the World Government, she also uses a thorn whip for a weapon.
Kamakiri
The warrior of Skypiea who raided the Upperyard (Part of Jaya island sent up into the sky by the Knock-Up Stream).
Kappa
Kapoty
Kapoty is a Fish-Man who belongs to Foxy the Silver Fox's pirate crew. He particaptes in the Donut race with Porche and Monda against the Straw Hat Pirates, during the Davy Back Fight.
Karoo
Also spelled "Carue". Vivi's pet spot-billed duck, a fast-footed riding bird. His role during Vivi's time with the Straw Hat Pirates is mostly that of comic relief, although he does relay valuable information to Chopper from time to time, and saves Vivi from Mr. 2 Bon Clay in Arabasta. His name comes from the Japanese word "karugamo," which means "spot-billed duck."
==Kaya==
Kaya is a rich girl who gets an inheritance after her parents die. Kaya becomes sickly, and her servant Klahadore often tends to her. (Klahadore was found three years earlier by her father, practically dead on their doorstep. Kaya's father took pity and offered the man a job.) Secretly, the town liar--Usopp--climbs a tree outside her window and tells her tall tales that make her laugh and feel better. However, Klahadore is very disapproving of this and eventually kicks Usopp out and makes Kaya believe that he is a bad influence.
One day, Usopp listens in on a conversation between Kurahadore and Jango, a hypnotist. Klahadore is really Captain Kuro and reveals that he plans to kill Kaya for her money--the last three years he has just been toying with the young woman. Usopp tries to warn Kaya about the plot, but Kaya believes that he is lying; she rebukes him when he insists that he is telling the truth.
Kaya is later informed of the truth by Merry, another servant of hers. Kaya confronts Kuro during a battle between Kuro and his men and Monkey D. Luffy, Usopp, Nami, and Roronoa Zolo. Kuro reveals that he tried to kill Merry. Kaya aims a gun at Kuro, but she drops it and cries after Kuro talks about how he was publicly at her side and how much he wants to kill her. Usopp tells his "pirate crew" (in reality a group of children who lie along with Usopp) named "Usopp's Pirates" (known as the Veggie Pirates in the English anime) to protect Kaya. The members, Carrot, Onion, and Pepper (Ninjin, Tamanegi, and Piman in the Japanese version), flee with Kaya to the forest. Django chases after them and attacks the group. When the children try to sneak up on Django, he attacks them and threatens to kill them. Kaya threatens to kill herself unless the children are kept alive. As she has not yet signed a will that states that Kuro is to get Kaya's worth when she dies, Django would be in trouble if she kills herself at this point, so he agrees to leave the children alone. In the English version of the anime, this scene was changed. In the scene in question in the English dub, Kaya tries to use Django's chakrams against him, but the chakrams will not let her use them.
The children pretend to be knocked out when Django forces Kaya to sign the will. Right before Django is able to slice her throat apart, Usopp's pirates ram him with a shovel. After Django knocks them away, Usopp and Zoro appear. Zoro slices off a branch with his sword, while Usopp hits Django with his Secret Technique Shooting Star attack, saving Kaya's life.
After the incident, Kaya gives the Merry Go (Going Merry Go in the Japanese version) to Luffy and his group of pirates as gratitude for saving her life.
King Cobra

Koby

He and Helmeppo are currently on Hina's ship.
Kohza
Kohza is Princess Vivi's childhood friend and an leader of the Suna Suna (Sand Sand) Clan. 11 years ago, when both he and Vivi were five years old, Kohza went into the palace without his father Toto, to beg King Cobra to save his oasis hometown Yuba. Arabasta was in the middle of a drought and Yuba was drying up; Kohza's father told him a king can do anything, so he asked the king to send rain. Unfortunately, the king informed Kohza that he did not have it in his power to do that. At that point, Toto rushed in and scolded Kohza for sneaking in without his notice. Cobra excused them and asked them to live in Alubarna; Toto agreed, but Kohza rejected it, and went off crying. He bumped into Vivi, who insulted him and called him a crybaby. The two subsequently got into a fight. Igaram, the Captain of the Royal Guard, was infuriated by this and tried to kill Kohza. The King stopped him. Toto almost committed suicide to atone for this, but Cobra hand-chopped the two to calm them down and informed them that it was only a kiddy fight. Vivi and Kohza went outside; the boys supported Kohza while the girls supported Vivi. We didn't know the outcome of the fight, but in the end Kohza made her a sub-leader for the Suna-Suna clan and they became friends.
Later, some thugs began to harass Vivi, and wanted to kidnap her. Kohza and the Suna-Suna clan defended Vivi and told her to run. They tried to stop the thugs but they were too big for them, so almost all of the clan was wounded. Vivi ran into the ruins as the crazed thugs chased her, and Kohza followed. When one of the thugs found her, Kohza jumped in. One of the thugs pulled out a knife and stabbed Kohza near the left eye, giving him a permanent scar. Kohza, still bleeding, managed to knock out the thug, but the other thugs almost kidnapped Vivi. Luckily, Cobra and Igaram came to the rescue just in time to kick the thugs down. Chaka and Pell, the two bodyguards, showed up and wondered why the king was so far from his palace. Kohza and the other members of the Suna-Suna Clan were taken to the palace for medical treatment, and Kohza developed a friendship with Chaka.
8 years later, another drought struck Alabasta, this time caused by Dance Powder, which steals rain from other clouds. This incident was known as Dance Powder Scandal. It started in Erumalu: some carriers were bringing the bags of Dance Powder to Alubarna, but the cart wheel was broken and the bags fell off and ripped up, exposing the illegal substance. When people asked what it was, one carrier lied to them that the king had ordered them to transport it, and thus the King was blamed for the incident. When the rebellion against the King gained momentum, Kohza took its place at its head, little realizing that the drought was actually the work of Crocodile.
Though he headed the assault on the Royal Palace, he helped stop the rebellion once he realized what was really going on. Though gravely wounded in the battle, he recovered and helped his father Toto rebuild the city of Yuba.
Kohza was last seen at Ukkari Hot Spring, owned and operated by his uncle Goro, along with Ener's ex-High Priest Gedatsu.
Kokoro
Conis
She is Pagaya's daughter and owner of a cloud fox, Sue. An important character in the Skypiea arc of the story. She greets the Straw-Hats once they reach her land and show them her peoples' customs. Once the crew gest in trouble over the Skypeia toll however, she regertfully reports them to their "god", Eneru, as this was also mandatory to her people. She makes up for it however by guiding the Merry Go through Upper Yard, warning her people of Eneru's attack, and helping the Straw Hats back down to earth after they defeated Eneru.
Kuina
The childhood friend of Roronoa Zolo. She was the daughter of the sword master of a dojo and the reason why Zolo developed the Santoryu technique and why he treasures one of his swords, the Wado Ichimonji, more than the others. In the English anime Wado Ichimonji is just "Wado". When Zolo was young, he challenged every dojo he came across and claimed their signs (in Japan, the sign signifies the dojo is to be respected). When he came across Kuina and her family's dojo, he finally met his match.
Zolo fought Kuina regularly, but found he could never beat her. Kuina, who has lost interest in sword fighting, became inspired again to become the greatest swordsman in the world as Zolo strove to beat her. She unfortunately dies before fufilling this dream, oddly enough by tripping down stairs in the storage room to get a sharpening stone for her sword. In the English anime she get's too injured to fufill her dream. Zolo decided to take her sword, Wado Ichimonji, and bring their shared dream of becoming the greatest swordsman to fruition in order to honor Kuina.
Kureha, Doctor
Doctor Kureha is the sole remaining doctor on Drum Island. Because of her eccentric treatment of patients (whom she will readily injure if they do not follow her orders), along with her reclusive nature, she is often called a "witch." However, she is a legitimate practitioner of medicine, and has kept herself healthy and fit at nearly 140 years old. She considers herself a beautiful virgin flower, dresses in a style more suited to women one-sixth her age, and cannot stand being called "old" or a "hag" (which usually ends up in her punching or kicking the offender across the room). Kureha seems to have a drinking habit, judging by the bottle of plum wine she always keeps close at hand, though she may consider this part of the regimen that keeps up her (relative) youth.
Dr. Kureha had an odd relationship with Dr. Hiruluk, seeming to enjoy the camaraderie of a fellow "doctor", but dismissing most of his ideas as those of a quack. When she realized that Hiruluk was dying, she agreed (reluctantly) to his last request: to train Tony Tony Chopper in medicine. During the time since Hiruluk's death, she trained Chopper in everything she knew, and was fairly impressed by the young reindeer's skill (though she rarely, if ever, let on to this fact). Knowing that Chopper would do well to gain real-world experience, Kureha helped make up his mind (by forbidding him from it) to leave the island with the Straw Hat Pirates. Standing on the ramparts of Drum Castle, she gave her wayward student a tearful send off of gigantic proportions, setting off the "cure" that Dr. Hiruluk envisioned for the island: pink "cherry blossom" snowflakes falling from the sky to warm the island's frosted heart.
Kurobi
A shark type Fish-man, and part of Arlong's crew. Kurobi is one of the strictest members in his crew and has always been wary of Nami's supposed allegiance to Arlong. Kurobi practices "Fish-Man karate" to fight his opponents. During the battle with the Straw Hats in the Arlong arc, he fights against Sanji whom he nearly defeats when the cook goes underwater to try and save Luffy. As a Fish-Man, Kurobi has an advantage underwater. However, Sanji manages to force him up to dry land by covering his gills and then promptly beats him into submission with his kicks.
Kuromarimo
One of Wapol's henchmen who appears in the Drum Island arc. He fights using the large afros on his fists, and sports a large afro on his head, and three small ones on his beard. He has the ability to do many tricks with said afros, from ejecting spikes from them to using them to constrict opponents.
With regards to his name, "kuro" means "black," and "marimo" is a kind of algae that forms into round balls due to the action of the tides. So in essence, "Kuromarimo" is a way of referring to his hairstyle.
Laboon
Laboon is an extremely large whale (of comparable or greater size than the monsters in Calm Belt), native to West Blue, whom the Strawhat Pirates encounter immediately after entering Grand Line. Fifty years earlier, Laboon had been left by Reverse Mountain by a group of pirates who had befriended him. Even though whales of Laboon's type are generally solitary, he had forged a powerful bond of friendship with these pirates, and he patiently waited for them at Grand Line's entrace. His caretaker is a doctor named Crocus, who normally mans the Lighthouse that introduces travelers into Grand Line.
Crocus revealed to the Strawhat Pirates that Laboon's friends effectively abandon him by fleeing Grand Line through an alternative path than the entrance at Reverse Mountain. It is unknown whether these pirates are alive or dead. The old doctor has cared for Laboon ever since his friends left him. Although Laboon knows the truth about his friends, he refuses to admit to himself that they are gone. Laboon has many scars on his head from slamming into Reverse Mountain, for he believes he can destroy the continent and return to West Blue.
Monkey D. Luffy, in an effort to give Laboon a renewed sense of hope, picks a fight with the whale by jamming the Merry Go's mast into his head. After the battle (which was effectively a draw), Luffy promises to Laboon that he will return to see him, under the guise of wanting a rematch. As a sign of this, Luffy paints the Strawhat Jolly Roger on Laboon's head, commenting that the insignia will wash away if Laboon hits Reverse Mountain further. The Strawhats depart, leaving behind two important friends.
Originally, in the Japanese manga and Anime, the appearance of Laboon is also the introduction of Mr.9 and Miss. Wednesday, two Frontier Agents of Baroque Works who are responsbile for bringing the Straw Hat Pirates to Whisky Peak (Misty Peak in the English dub). However, this brief encounter was deemed to be too controversial and violent for American audiences, so Laboon was passed off as an iceberg that was effectively destroyed by Monkey D. Luffy.
This missing "arc" was also significant in it was originally how Nami came to have a Log Pose, though this was also written around in the English anime.

After the fight with Buggy was over and he was defeated, Mohji fought with Cabaji (the second mate) for the right to be the next captain. But it was Richie who got the title after unknowingly defeating both of them while sleepwalking. His stint as a captain didn't last long as no sooner on their first journey, the crew ran into a cannibal tribe and were almost eaten. Luckily Buggy resurfaced and came to their rescue. But a sudden rainstorm foiled their plans and the two were swiftly defeated by Usopp. The last seen of the two, they were still sailing with Buggy and his crew around the Grand Line.

Cricket is the descendent of Morbran Norland. Due to the (false) fairy tale bearing his ancestors name, he is looked down upon and has become bitter up to the point that he hates his ancestor. To that end, he aimed to prove that the city of gold existed by diving into the ocean from day to day searching for any proof of it. He was later joined by Masria and Shoujou, two fans of the fairy tale who helped his cause, who would became his surrogate sons. The Straws Hats soon came to him for more info on Skypiea and to reach it. But Bellamy the Hyena comes afterward and steals all of Cricket's hard earned artifacts he found on the ocean. Luffy gets them back, however, and Cricket, Masria, and Shoujou modify the Merry Go so it can travel in the sky. Near the end of the Skypiea arc, Cricket hears the ringing of the golden bell (courtesy of Luffy) proving that Skypiea and the gold city really do exist. Thanking the Straw Hats and relieved they're alright in the sky; he, Masria, and Shoujou begin to think of a new dream to pursue.
Morbran Norland
In the present timeline of the series, Morbran Norland is regarded in a North Blue fairy tale as a trickster and a liar who made up the story of the gold city. He stood by his story even up till his execution.
But 400 years ago, he was an explorer who found the island of Jaya by hearing the ringing of a golden bell located on the island. This bell was regarded as a holy object by the native Shandora tribe of Jaya. Norland and his crew became friends with the tribe, especially the Shandorain tribe warrior Calgara, and with their help discovered a city of gold on the island. After he returned to his home island Leveel, he told the king about his expedition. The king then ordered Norland to take him to the city of gold. Once they arrived on the island, however, the city and its people had disappered. The reason for this, though unknown by Norland, was due to an underwater geyser called the Knock Up Stream. This powerful geyser shot a portion of the island up into the sky, where it remained suspended in sky. The king, furious, thought Norland was playing a trick on him and thus sentenced him to death. Furthermore, the king even framed Norland by having one of his subjects act as member of Norland's crew, falsly testifying against Norland. In the end, with his crew watching helplessly, Norland tearfully is left wondering what happened to his native friends and the golden city as he is killed.

The two are left as the protagonists press forward. However, Usopp (still disguised as Sogeking), who had been accidentally left behind, hears them lament their tragic existence: They joined and worked for the Government for 50 years only because they thought the leaders of their clan were being held captive in prison. Oimo and Kaashii were promised that by serving the government, they would be released. Their leaders were none other than Dorry and Brogy, whom the Straw Hats had met during the Little Garden arc. Whenever he sees one wearing anything skimpy, he gets on their case, and calls them "lewd."
When Paulie first met the Straw Hats, he did not seem to like them very much (taking special offense to Nami, whom he deemed "lewd"). After it appeared that they were responsible for Iceberg's attempted murder, he had it out for them, and attacked Luffy along with the other Galley-La shipwrights. He remained convinced that Luffy & co. had it out for Galley-La until he, too, was attacked by CP9 and was shown their true forms: his trusted friends and colleagues Rob Lucci, Calipha, Kaku, and Blueno. Faced with this reality, he teamed up with Luffy to attack CP9 head-on, but was defeated unceremoniously and immediately.
Paulie was rescued from the wreckage of Galley-La HQ by Chopper, and later helped coordinate efforts to find and rescue Luffy and Zoro (who had been thrown far by Lucci). Soon afterwards, he volunteered to accompany the Straw-Hats (along with the Franky Family, Kokoro, Peeply Lulu and Tileston) to rescue Robin, Franky, and Usopp before they reached the dreaded Aeneas Lobby, headquarters of the Navy. Tom
Tom was a powerful pufferfish-type Fish-Man, known as the most skilled shipwright in the world. Tom is responsible for building the Oro Jackson, Gold Roger's ship, which got him into trouble with the Navy and the World Government. Although building a ship for pirates is generally not considered a crime (as the shipwrights have no control over who mans their ships), a special case had to be made for Tom because his client was the King of the Pirates.
To escape what would be a cruel and unnecessary fate, Tom made an agreement with the judge: given 10 years, he could save his dying home city of Water Seven, by constructing an unprecedented Sea Train which could traverse even the roughest of weather to deliver and receive goods and services. Thus, Tom's trial went into recess for a decade, to reconvene after the Sea Train's completion.
However, Tom was also the holder of a blueprint for Pluton, an ancient warship of power so great that its name survived the passage of time (or perhaps the cataclysm) that blotted out most of the world's history. This is the same Pluton that Crocodile was seeking in Alabasta.
Tom's possession of the blueprint led other factions of the Government to seek it: of note, a man named Spandam working for Cipher Pol. 5, a secret governmental organization not overseen by the Navy. Spandam, in an effort to secure the blueprints, hired people to steal and man the ships of Tom's student, Cutty Flam, to attack Water Seven at the resumption of Tom's trial. Though he knew Franky to be innocent, Tom took responsibility for the actions of his pupil's ships, thus reinstating his original sentence. Tom was escorted on the train he built to Enies Lobby, where he was allegedly executed shortly thereafter.

Yama
Yama is the military commander of Eneru's army during the Skypiea arc. He is a large, mountain-shaped man who uses his large body to crush his opponents. During the survival game in Upper Yard, he manages to defeat Genbou, one of the Shandorian warriors. But despite this victory, he soon encounters Nico Robin and angers her by destroying most of ancient ruins of Jaya with his reckless charging. For that, she uses her Hana Hana powers to defeat him.
The name "Yama" comes from the Hindu god of the same name (pronounced "Enma" in Japanese), continuing the religious theme present among Eneru's forces. However, it is also a pun, because "Yama" means "mountain" in Japanese (hence the character's shape).

Zeff
Former pirate and Sanji's mentor. Currently head chef on the floating restaurant Baratie.
When Sanji was a kitchen boy, the ship he worked on was attacked by Zeff's pirate crew. Sanji had the guts to attack Zeff himself, claiming that he wanted to live in order to find the sea 'All Blue'--Zeff's own dream as well. During the skirmish, a fierce storm wiped out both Sanji's ship and the pirate ship, nearly drowning Sanji. Zeff went into the water to save the boy because they shared the same dream. In the Anime: During the rescue, Zeff's leg caught on debris and he had to cut it off in order to get Sanji and save them both.
After the rescue, they were washed up onto a tall island by a wave. There was no food on it, and no way to get to the sea and back to land for fish. Unknown to Sanji, Zeff gave all of the food that had washed ashore with them to the young boy and kept none for himself (In the manga, he still had both his legs. But cuts off his right leg and eats it to keep himself alive). After 80 plus days with little food they were finally rescued, and Zeff swore that he would open a restaurant on the sea and serve anyone who was hungry, whether they be naval marine or pirate.
Years later, Zeff makes good on his promise and opens the Baratie, a floating restaurant shaped like a fish, famous for its amazing food and fighting cooks. Even with a peg leg, Zeff's kicks can still kill a man and he passed the art on to Sanji. When Luffy comes to the restaurant and defeats Don Krieg, Zeff encourages Sanji to leave the Baratie to persue his dream for both their sakes. He also offers to give Luffy his log book that records the days he spent on the Grand Line, but Luffy refuses, saying he wants to create his own story and not follow the story of another.
Zeff has a tendency to call Sanji 'Little Eggplant' and Sanji calls him 'Crap Geezer' in return.
