Wikipedia talk:Text of the GNU Free Documentation License, version 1.2
The page Wikipedia:Text of the GNU Free Documentation License should not be edited (see Wikipedia:copyrights, GNU Free Documentation License). In theory, someone could edit the license maliciously (e.g., "from now on, all contributions are immediately owned by Joe Blow") and argue all later changes implicitly accepted the modified license. Such changes are unlikely to stand in court, but it could make life unpleasant and life is too short to let vandals cause these sorts of problems. A check of the history will confirm whether it has been or not, but normally the text is protected so it cannot be edited at all.
- Should we not try to wikify it a bit? I would certainly have appreciated links to the FSF website and the text of the GPL. Hyperlinks would not in any way change the meaning of the license, but would make it a more useful document. -- ChrisO 16:13, 23 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Why don't we replace the page with the latest version?
Version 1.2, November 2002 is at:

- I second this motion. I've mentioned it on the wikipedia:village pump (again!) Martin
- I've just updated. Version 1.2 is where it's at. Martin 12:15 17 Jun 2003 (UTC)
Can I __NOTOC__ this, or something? The numbering as it stands is dodgy. But I'm not allowed to just remove the numbers from the headers, I guess. Evercat 16:39, 3 Aug 2003 (UTC)
- This is rather makeshift, but how about:
Table of contents [can't hide] |
- I NOTOC'd it for now. Maybe a hand done TOC would be a good idea... but some people have them turned off in prefs. :-/ Martin
- Better to just not have it than have it behave weirdly in this one instance, I think... hmmm... Evercat 20:58, 3 Aug 2003 (UTC)
Please add link to the Romanian version ro:GNU_FDL as alternate language; that article has actually been translated on Wikipedia, and that's also the current unofficial Romanian translation of GFDL as listed on www.gnu.org. --Gutza 13:53, 5 Jan 2004 (UTC)
The section "How to use this License for your documents" needs to be part of the main license text, as it is specifically referenced in section 4F of the text. Martin 22:50, 15 Feb 2004 (UTC)
