Clark Gable
Clark Gable, American actor
- Born: 1 February 1901, Cadiz, Ohio, USA
- Died: 16 November 1960, Los Angeles, California, USA.
Gable won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his 1934 performance in the film It Happened One Night. He is best-known today, however, for his performance as Rhett Butler in the 1939 classic Gone With the Wind.
Gable's appearance in 1935's Mutiny on the Bounty as Fletcher Christian makes Gable one of a select few actors to appear in three films that have won an Academy Award for Best Picture.
In one well-known scene in It Happened One Night, Gable's star power became apparent when he removed his shirt and revealed his bare chest. Across the United States, women stopped buying undershirts for their husbands.
Gable's marriage to Carole Lombard was the happiest episode in his personal life, and ended with Lombard's tragic death in a plane crash.
His last film was The Misfits, which also featured Marilyn Monroe in her last screen performance.
